England may have retained the Ashes but another set of cricketers will be aiming to repeat the feat this summer when the England over-70’s side do battle with Australia.
Hugh Milner has been appointed as captain and manager of England for the first series for the over-70’s on these shores, following the success of the ten-match series (2009 to 2012) between the over-60 teams.
“It is a great honour to have been selected as the captain of the England over-70’s side and we hope be No 1 in the World for 70+ cricket,” said Milner.
“We have a great all-round squad and are looking forward to wearing the England shirt and cap.”
The three match series has been supported by the England and Wales Cricket Board with Chief Executive David Collier saying: “This summer will be a wonderful celebration of cricket with the New Zealand and Ashes tours in addition to the Champions Trophy.
“The ECB are happy to help establish the 70+ series versus Australia – good luck and bring back those Ashes.”
The three Test matches will take place at the following venues as follows:
Thursday, August 15 – Hursley Park Cricket Club, Winchester
Sunday, August 18 – Three Bridges Cricket Club, Crawley
Thursday, August 22 – Sunbury on Thames Cricket Club
