Veteran cricket broadcaster and writer Norman de Mesquita, who was a stalwart of the county game for more than 50 years, has died at his home in north-west London aged 81.
De Mesquita, who regularly covered Middlesex for BBC Radio London and Wisden, was a popular figure in the Lord’s press box where he was renowned for his wit and mimicry.
He also played a major role in popularising ice-hockey in the UK as a writer, match announcer and referee.
