Joe Root and Alastair Cook's 54-run partnership was ended by Veerasammy Permaul after the pair rebuilt following the loss of three early wickets on the opening day of the third and final Test against West Indies at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.
After Cook won the toss and opted to make first use, the tourists made a poor start when Jonathan Trott fended a Shannon Gabriel short delivery to a diving Permaul at square-leg in the second over.
Jason Holder then dismissed Gary Ballance and Ian Bell in consecutive individual set of sixes, both with the score on 38, cleaning up the former before accepting a return catch to dismiss the latter for a duck.
Cook and Root guided England through the first session, when only 25 overs were bowled, and looked comfortable until the latter, attempting to record a seventh consecutive Test half-century, edged Permaul behind to depart for 33.
All-rounder Ben Stokes passed a fitness test on a sore back, meaning the tourists stuck with the same side that won in Grenada.
West Indies shook their team up, making three changes as Jerome Taylor, Shai Hope, handed a Test debut, and Permaul were chosen ahead of Kemar Roach, Devon Smith and Devendra Bishoo respectively.

Afternoon session
6.38pm - REVIEW! - West Indies call for a review when they see an appeal for lbw against Moeen, pushing forward, turned down. The ball hit the left-hander's pad just before bat but it was outside the line. Not out!

6.31pm - Moeen is beaten by a beauty from Samuels which span sharply off the pitch. The England spinner will be hoping to produce deliveries like that when he gets chance to turn his arm over.
6.24pm - It is Cook's turn to go on the attack, getting down on one knee to top-edge sweep Permaul over the in-field for a couple. The left-hander replicates the shot later in the over and sees it fly to the boundary.
6.20pm - New batsman Moeen Ali advances down the track and, despite slipping, just manages to lift Permaul over mid-on for four. Intent shown from the left-hander to take England into three figures.
6.15pm - A bit of news coming in from the England camp. Leg-spinner Adil Rashid and paceman Mark Wood, who were not selected for this final Test, have been added to the squad to play Ireland in a one-day international on May 8.
6.06pm - WICKET! Root c Ramdin b Permaul 33; Eng 91/4 - Root is gone! The right-hander, attempting to cut, edges Permaul behind to Denesh Ramdin. Therefore he misses out on a record seventh consecutive Test half-century.
6.05pm - Cook almost drags on to Taylor, the ball racing away to the fine-leg boundary to herald the fifty stand with Root.

5.58pm - Root cashes in on two Permaul full-tosses by sweeping them to the midwicket boundary. The left-arm spinner has struggled with his line and length during his five-over spell so far. Root looks a man in form!
5.45pm - The players are back out for the afternoon session. Let's see if we can have more than 25 overs in this passage of play! Veerasammy Permaul and Jerome Taylor take the ball for the Windies.
Morning session
5pm - LUNCH! Eng 71/3; Cook 31, Root 19 - Cook shuffles across his stumps and tickles Taylor to the fine-leg rope from the final ball of the session. West Indies' seamers have been impressive. It has been slow going with only 25 overs delivered.
4.56pm - Root is again busy at the crease. The Yorkshireman's controlled sweep for four is followed by a fierce pull after Permaul drops short. Great batting.
4.46pm - REVIEW! - Cook turns Permaul's third ball into short-leg's hands. Did it carry? No. Umpire Billy Bowden sends it upstairs but replays show it just dropped short of the close fielder.
4.41pm - In-form Joe Root flicks Holder through midwicket for four. Sublime timing from the right-hander. He then takes a couple into the leg side off Samuels to bring up the England 50 in the 21st over.
4.27pm - WICKET! Bell c&b Holder 0; Eng 38/3 - Ian Bell hands Holder a simple return catch and England lose a second wicket with the score on 38.
4.19pm - WICKET! Ballance b Holder 18; Eng 38/2 - The ball after Holder angles one into Ballance's pads and has a lbw appeal turned down, he replicates the delivery and this time gets it through the left-hander's defences.
4.16pm - Ballance emulates Cook in the next over, rocking onto the back foot to cut Samuels to the boundary. That forces the spinner to drop short and Ballance pulls into the stand for six.
4.12pm - Samuels extracts a little bit of turn and forces Ballance, pushing forward, to squirt a controlled edge through the vacant gully region for a single. Encouraging signs for the tweaker. Cook then punishes a wide Holder ball by cutting to the point rope. A welcome boundary for England, the skipper's third of the innings.
3.57pm - Another bowling change for the Windies sees spinner Marlon Samuels get an early opportunity with the ball. England are 20 for one after 11 overs.
3.52pm - Jason Holder, who rolled his ankle in the last match, is into the attack, replacing Gabriel. Cook and Ballance are continuing to be watchful.
3.37pm - After Taylor beats Cook's outside edge, the batsman responds by powerfully pulling the bowler for four. Shot!
3.26pm - Gabriel is troubling Cook, angling consecutive deliveries across the left-hander who does well not to nick behind. The 27-year-old looks in good rhythm.

3.14pm - Captain Cook gets England off the mark by pulling Taylor to the midwicket boundary in confident fashion. The reliable Gary Ballance, who became the third-fastest England batsman to reach 1,000 Test runs in Grenada, is at the other end.
3.08pm - WICKET! Trott c Permaul b Gabriel 0; Eng 0/1 - A poor start for England as Jonathan Trott fends a Gabriel short ball to Veerasammy Permaul at square-leg.
3.05pm - Jerome Taylor, moving the ball both in and away from Alastair Cook, starts with a maiden. Fellow paceman Shannon Gabriel will operate from the Joel Garner End.
Pre-play news
2.55pm - Here we go then! Openers Cook and Jonathan Trott make their way to the middle. Fit-again paceman Taylor has the ball in hand for the hosts.
2.50pm - While we wait for the action to start, why not read Root's latest exclusive blog where the Yorkshireman reflects on a brilliant week in Barbados in which he spent time with family, trained hard and enjoyed a cooking session on the beach with near namesake Levi Roots.

The opening batsman also confirmed his side was unchanged, Ben Stokes having passed a fitness test on a sore back. Barbados-born Chris Jordan plays at the ground where he grew up. West Indies make three changes, Jerome Taylor, Shai Hope and Veerasammy Permaul playing at the expense of Kemar Roach, Devon Smith and Devendra Bishoo respectively. Hope makes his Test debut.
