James Anderson enjoyed a dream morning session to put England on course for victory in the Grenada Test.
On a pitch that has offered bowlers minimal assistance, England’s top Test wicket-taker struck three times with the second new ball before taking two catches and a run-out.
A vicious bouncer did for centurion Kraigg Brathwaite on 116, ending a stand of 79 with Marlon Samuels.
Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Samuels were then caught behind the wicket, the former from a brilliant rebound grasp by Alastair Cook at first slip.
Anderson’s two catches were regulation ones but his run-out of Jason Holder was sensational, spotting the non-striker out of his crease and throwing down the stumps.
At lunch West Indies were 286 for eight, 121 ahead with just two wickets left.

5.01pm – LUNCH! WI 286/8; Ramdin 24, Bishoo 0 – Joe Root and fellow spinner Moeen send down tight overs to end a scarcely-believable session for England and Anderson. West Indies lead by 121 with just two wickets in hand.
If this was football Jimmy Anderson would be having a Roy of the Rovers morning in Grenada. Irresistible, magnetic stuff from him.

4.53pm – WICKET! Roach c Anderson b Moeen 10; WI 282/2 – You couldn’t script this for Anderson! He takes a second catch to go with his three scalps and a run-out! This time Roach chips tamely to Anderson’s right at mid-on. This is dream stuff for Anderson and England! The hosts lead by 117 with only two wickets left.
4.45pm – With 15 minutes until lunch, Moeen Ali takes over from Broad and begins with a maiden to Roach. Ramdin then cuts Jordan for four, beating Stokes on the boundary.
4.28pm – West Indies edge nervously into a lead of three figures as captain Ramdin pulls Jordan for four and Kemar Roach then inside-edges Broad, who has succeeded the magnificent Anderson, for two to long-leg. Following a Jordan maiden to Ramdin, Roach uppercuts Broad for four.
Is there anything Anderson can't do!

4.19pm – WICKET! Holder run out (Anderson) 2; WI 260/7 – Jimmy is on fire, now effecting a run-out! Ramdin drives uppishly to cover-point where Gary Ballance almost holds a sublime catch, diving to his right. The ball rebounds to mid-off where Anderson, spotting Jason Holder is out of his ground, throws down the non-striker’s stumps! Sensational!
Brilliant from England this morning, keeping a smile on my face with Newcastle losing at home again #howaythelads

4.09pm – WICKET! Blackwood c Anderson b Jordan 10; WI 257/6 – Blackwood, who had just driven Anderson for four down the ground, attempts an aerial version against Jordan but picks out a leaping Anderson at mid-off. A mindless shot but a fine catch. West Indies are 92 ahead with just four wickets left.
4.03pm – CHANCE! – Anderson nearly has another, which would have been in identical fashion to how he snared Brathwaite. Ramdin this time can’t deal with a bumper but his edge flies just over a leaping Root at gully. That follows a maiden from Jordan, who has replaced Broad.
3.55pm – Blackwood, having just survived some dodgy running with Denesh Ramdin, guides a slightly wayward Anderson ball to the fine-leg rope.
This is some spell from Jimmy Anderson at the end of two long, hard Tests...

3.44pm – WICKET! Samuels c Buttler b Anderson 37; 239/5 – Game on! Samuels is caught in two minds, at the last minute trying to leave a length Anderson ball but feathering a catch to wicketkeeper Jos Buttler. Stokes can’t resist giving Samuels a verbal send-off. It’s another wicket-maiden for Anderson. His figures today are 5-3-3-3!
Proving once again @jimmy9 why he is the best English bowler in my time watching and playing.... #WIvsENG

3.33pm – WICKET! Chanderpaul c Cook b Anderson 7; WI 238/4 – West Indies’ lynchpin is on his way. The left-hander edges to second slip where Ian Bell can only parry towards Alastair Cook at first. Cook brilliantly dives full-length to his right and holds on with his second right-handed grab. What a catch! Anderson completes a wicket-maiden to Jermaine Blackwood.
3.25pm – Shivnarine Chanderpaul announces himself by pulling Broad for four but Anderson follows up with a maiden to the new batsman. Broad starts another by conceding a four as Samuels uppercuts a poor delivery.
3.10pm – WICKET! Brathwaite c Root b Anderson 116; WI 224/3 – Anderson strikes straight away with the new ball! He digs a vicious bouncer in at Brathwaite, who can only glove a looping catch to Root at gully. That’s the start England wanted, ending a stand of 79!
3.04pm – England take the new ball at the earliest opportunity. James Anderson bowled the last over to warm up for using the fresh cherry, but Stuart Broad is having first use. Broad immediately has an lbw shout against Brathwaite turned down, with the ball angling towards leg, and next delivery the right-hander edges just over third slip.
2.58pm – Marlon Samuels plays out a maiden to Root and then takes a quick single off Jordan. Ben Stokes, who has had verbals with Samuels in this game, picks up at cover and shies at the non-striker’s stumps but misses and the ball goes for four overthrows.
2.47pm– With the second new ball due in five overs, spinner Joe Root opens the bowling. Centurion Kraigg Brathwaite pulls the first ball for four. There are 98 overs scheduled to be bowled today. Chris Jordan is on at the other end. Brathwaite flicks him to fine-leg for four.
