James Anderson landed an early blow with a brilliant inswinger after play started an hour and 45 minutes late in the second Test.
Anderson, who became England’s top Test wicket-taker in the drawn first Test, knocked back Kraigg Brathwaite’s leg stump in his second over.
Alastair Cook won the toss at a humid National Cricket Stadium in Grenada and announced one change to the tourists’ line-up, with fit-again all-rounder Moeen Ali in for James Tredwell, who had recovered from his knock on day five of the drawn first Test, meaning the alteration is a tactical one.
West Indies showed two changes. As expected, Devendra Bishoo came in for fellow spinner Sulieman Benn. But Jerome Taylor has a shoulder injury so fellow seamer Shannon Gabriel took his place.
Play eventually started an hour and 45 minutes late, with an hour-long morning session scheduled.

Morning session
5.33pm – Following a fourth Anderson maiden from six fine overs, Chris Jordan takes over from Broad. England are seeking at least one more breakthrough before lunch, which is at 5.45pm. Smith ends Jordan’s over by straight-driving for four.
5.20pm – After Smith takes Broad for a leg-side four, Anderson delivers a maiden to Bravo. Both bowlers could do with pitching it up a little more.
5.05pm – Broad and Anderson pile the pressure on Bravo and opener Devon Smith with a maiden each. This is an ideal start for England. Bravo cover-drives Anderson for four but then edges him just short of fourth slip in a packed cordon scenting blood.

4.52pm – WICKET! Brathwaite b Anderson; WI 2/1 – After a tight Stuart Broad over, Anderson immediately delivers a devastating late inswinger that goes through the right-hander’s gate and knocks back leg stump. That was a beauty from Jimmy! Darren Bravo ends the over with the game’s first four, to long-leg.
4.47pm – James Anderson starts with a maiden to Kraigg Brathwaite. From the over’s last ball he found an edge but it dropped short of the slips.

3.39pm – ENGLAND WIN THE TOSS AND BOWL! Alastair Cook calls correctly and announces one change, with Moeen Ali in for James Tredwell. Cook explains Tredwell is fit after his knock on Friday, so the alteration is a tactical one. As expected, Devendra Bishoo comes in for fellow spinner Sulieman Benn. But Jerome Taylor has a shoulder injury so fellow seamer Shannon Gabriel takes his place.
3.35pm – The covers are off and everyone concerned is gathering in the middle for the toss. Fingers crossed!
3.25pm – Unfortunately the toss is not taking place now. Further frustration. They’ll try again at 3.40pm. If that goes ahead, play will start at 4pm.
3.20pm – The square is partially covered again, although the latest news is that the toss will be in five minutes. Unfortunately the hills near to this picturesque ground can slow rain clouds from moving away.
Toss has been rescheduled for 10.25am (3.25pm UK time) #WIvEng
