England claimed two wickets before lunch on the third day after another grafting session in the field.
James Tredwell removed key man Shivnarine Chanderpaul shortly before the new ball, fooling the veteran to drive to Ben Stokes at short cover, before Stuart Broad had Denesh Ramdin caught off his gloves by Jos Buttler down the leg side.
Broad’s wicket was rewarded for a hostile spell in which he tested set batsman Jermaine Blackwood, who survived his stern test to be unbeaten on 69 – his highest score in Test cricket.
James Anderson was unable to make any further ground on Sir Ian Botham’s England wickets record after two morning-session spells, the second of which came with the new ball.
Live scorecard / Live ball-by-ball commentary
Morning session
5.01pm - LUNCH! West Indies 234/6; Blackwood 69 Holder 7 - Another session where England's bowlers had to work for their wickets. Broad's battle with Blackwood was the feature of the session and both men will feel as thuogh they have contributed to a good session for both of their sides.
4.54pm - DROPPED! Broad almost has another. New man Jason Holder fends a short ball to short-leg. He hit it well enough so that Gary Ballance hardly had time to react and while he did get hands on the ball he was never quite in position. Holder gets a life on four after he had flicked his first ball off his hips to the rope.
4.51pm - WICKET! Ramdin c Buttler b Broad 9; WI 227/6 - Broad does strike with the short ball, but it is not Blackwood who falls. From around the wicket he angles one into Ramdin's ribs and he gloves it down the leg side for Buttler to take his fourth catch of the innings. Blackwood had been lucky to survive earlier in the over when he ballooned a short ball short of third man.
4.48pm - This Broad v Blackwood battle has been the feature of the morning session. The West Indian has smiled back at Broad after getting a few well-aimed bouncers. Can Broad get him before the break?
4.42pm - Blackwood moves past his previous highest Test score - which was 66 against Bangladesh at Gros Islet - as he jumps onto the back foot and drives Broad in front of point for four.
4.36pm - Denesh Ramdin gets a bottom edge off Jordan that races through England's four-man slips cordon and to the rope.
4.30pm - Broad has been enthused by that short ball to Blackwood and, with a short-leg now in place, is trying to work him over. It is not the quickest pitch in the world to employ this tactic, although Blackwood has shown some susceptibility.
Anderson is being replaced by Chris Jordan now.
4.20pm - Anderson is testing Blackwood, and drawing a few plays-and-misses, but the West Indies right-hander is surviving. Broad returns next over and has Blackwood scrambling as he fends a bouncer into the air but short of Buttler. Chances are being created.
4.11pm - Stokes gets use of the second new ball at the other end and delivers a maiden. So it's Anderson to Blackwood again...
4.03pm - Blackwood greets Anderson and a new ball as only he knows how - with a lofted drive over the off-side field. This one goes high and plugs just before the rope. It's drinks after the over with West Indies 197 for five.
3.59pm - England are taking the new ball and Anderson is back into the attack. Here we go...
3.51pm - WICKET! Chanderpaul c Stokes b Tredwell 46; WI 192/5 - Big wicket just before the second new ball. Chanderpaul has been so watchful but he drives in the air to Stokes, who was one of two men stationed in the short cover region. Chanderpaul had just driven in between them both. He tried to beat them again only to fall.
3.44pm - FIFTY! Blackwood (120b 7x4 1x6) - The fourth half-century for Blackwood in his short Test career. He's ridden his luck at times for this one but he has also been willing to play the big strokes to release the pressure. The 23-year-old gets to his fifty thanks to an overthrow as Jos Buttler fails to take a return on the bounce.
3.31pm - DROPPED! Blackwood gets another life off Stokes. This time it is not the bowlers fault - and it is hard to blame the fielder either as Tredwell almost pulls of a great reaction catch in a fine gully position. Tredwell had that until his elbows hit the turf and popped the ball out of his hands. Blackwood's second repreieve after he was caught off a Stokes no ball last night. He is on 43.
3.27pm - There has been an early change of bowling. Ben Stokes replaces Broad while Anderson will cool his heels until the new ball and James Tredwell takes over for a spot of spin.

3.18pm - Just the single run from Broad's two overs this morning. We are 10 overs away from the second new ball so these two may not have extended spells here.
3.13pm - Anderson draws a rare false shot out of Shivnarine Chanderpaul. He drives at a catchable height through the covers but, sadly for Anderson, again the ball flies wide of the field. The left-hander follows the shot with a controlled steer through backward point for another boundary.
3.04pm - James Anderson comes close to career wicket number 382 in his very first over. Jermaine Blackwood, who showed a tendency to play a loose shot last night, drives aerially and only just wide of Stuart Broad at mid-on.
Pre-play news

2.39pm - We've got a super piece from ecb.co.uk's Andy Wilson to read before play on Anderson's rise from a lad in Burnley to the cusp of his record-breaking day. If he can get over the line in the next few days it would be made all the more memorable in his 100th Test and in front of his family who are in Antigua for the game.
2.37pm - Can today be the day that Jimmy breaks Sir Ian Botham's record? He needs two more wickets to join Beefy on 383 Test wickets and then another to stand alone above every other England bowler ever.
2.30pm - Welcome to our live blog from the third day of this Test in Antigua. England are looking for early wickets. The morning has brought wickets on both days so far and, with some more rain before play, the pitch might have a little bit more life in it.
Standing in England's way - as ever - is Shivnarine Chanderpaul. Get him and England might just be able to secure a significant first-innings advantage.
