Stuart Broad came through an injury scare before Jonny Bairstow fell just short of a century as England warmed up against a St Kitts and Nevis XI.
Bairstow was the stand-out performer in an innings that included three fellow squad members lining up for the hosts in a bid for extra match practice, as they reached 303 for nine at the close of play.
The day started with worry when Broad collapsed to the floor in his opening over after losing his footing in his delivery stride, having already expressed concerns over the state of the footmarks.
Fears were allayed after Broad left the field for check-ups, with Head Coach Peter Moores concerned enough to go out to the middle to assess the situation. Broad soon returned to the field and later bowled eight overs.
Jonathan Trottand Gary Ballance, joining Bairstow and Joe Root in the St Kitts and Nevis side, fell cheaply before lunch to James Anderson and James Tredwell respectively.
However Bairstow and Root gained valuable match practice, with Bairstow falling agonisingly short of a century before Root finished the innings unbeaten on 87.
Trott was the first wicket to fall, edging Anderson to Tredwell at third slip to depart for a third-ball duck, before Ballance added 17 until edging a cut shot into the gloves of Jos Buttler.
Ben Stokes had earlier ripped out Shane Jeffers' middle stump and Tredwell had Sherwin Peters lbw for nought offering no stroke.
Bairstow reached lunch on 33 not out in a total of 55 for four, and continued to score briskly in the afternoon, sharing a 135-run stand with Akeem Saunders.
Adil Rashid snared Saunders for 50 and soon after Bairstow was just two short of a ton when Stokes found his outside edge to have him caught behind.
Stokes cleaned up Ross Powell and Broad likewise ousted Jacques Taylor with Steve Liburd run out for nought in between.
Root made full use of his unexpected time in the middle to compile an unbeaten half-century and set the game up for England to bat tomorrow, when Alastair Cook and Adam Lyth are expected to open against the bowling of Liam Plunkett and Mark Wood.
