Former England all-rounder Dimitri Mascarenhas will be New Zealand's bowling coach for this summer's Test and limited-overs series between the two countries.

Mascarenhas, who played 20 one-day internationals and 14 Twenty20s for England, will replace Shane Bond as the Kiwis' bowling coach once the World Cup co-hosts and unbeaten quarter-finalists have finished their campaign in the global tournament.

The 37-year-old former Hampshire captain is already an experienced coach, including in New Zealand and at the major franchise Twenty20 tournaments in India and Australia.

He told New Zealand Cricket's official website: "After being in New Zealand for only a year, to have an opportunity like this come up is pretty special, and I am honoured to be chosen for this position.

Dimitri Mascarenhas joined Hampshire in 1996 and remained with the south coast county until two years ago

"Bondy has done an extremely good job with his bowling unit; they have operated with real pace, skill and tactical awareness.

"During this World Cup they have been phenomenal, and I am looking forward to working with those guys to keep developing them and helping them achieve success on the international stage."

Mascarenhas points out his knowledge of English cricket will be handy on his first tour, adding: "I am newly out of the scene there as a player and I know most of the guys in the current team very well.

"The new guys I have played a lot with in county cricket, and I know all the grounds we are playing at intimately. So those factors will be useful in terms of the scouting and bowling plans."
