Moeen Ali and Chris Woakes have been ruled out of England’s last World Cup game, versus Afghanistan on Friday at the Sydney Cricket Ground, by injury.
The all-rounders picked up knocks in Monday’s loss to Bangladesh, a defeat which meant England will not progress to the quarter-finals.
Off-spinner Moeen suffered a left-sided abdominal strain while bowling, although he was later able to bat at the Adelaide Oval.
Woakes felt discomfort in his left foot while making 42 not out as England fell 15 runs short of the Tigers’ 275. He left the ground with a protective boot on the foot, and scans have now revealed a stress reaction in his third metatarsal.
