Holly Colvin will return to play for Sussex women this season after taking a break from the game.
The left-arm spinner, 25, had been part of the England set-up since making her debut aged 15 - the youngest player of either gender to play for the country - in 2005 until she stepped away from cricket following the 2013 season to pursue other opportunities.
During her sabbatical, she has been working with the Lord's Taverners and Cricket Without Boundaries, the AIDS awareness charity using cricket to raise knowledge of the illness in Africa.
Colvin was a member of her country's World Twenty20, World Cup and Ashes-winning sides in 2009 and the 2013 Ashes-winning group. She has also won several County Championship titles, including as captain in 2013.
Colvin, who is set to play alongside Australia’s Erin Osborne, said: “I’m very excited to be back playing some old faces again and seeing some of the opposition too. However, I’m actually really excited to play with the young talent coming through Sussex’s ranks.
“I’ve only been out of the domestic game for a year and already the squad has changed dramatically so it will be good to see what they can do.
“I’ve gained a lot of experience in my time off, and if anything it’s given me a lot of perspective that there is more to life than just cricket.”
Colvin has played five Tests, 72 one-day internationals and 50 Twenty20 matches for England, with career-best figures of 4-9 in a World T20 clash with Pakistan in 2012 and 4-17 against West Indies in her last ODI in November 2013.
Sussex’s director of women’s cricket Charlotte Burton added: “We are delighted to have Holly back playing for Sussex and are pleased we didn’t have to wait long for her return to the game.
"We missed Holly last year, not just as a player but her personality in the dressing room. She will bring a lot of experience to our young side from her years of playing for Sussex and England."
