David Warner's huge century led Australia to a record World Cup total of 417 for six against Afghanistan at the WACA Ground.
Warner smashed 178 off 133 balls, with 19 fours and five sixes - the highest one-day international innings in Perth, beating Damien Martyn's 144 not out against Zimbabwe in 2001.
He put on 260 for the second wicket with Steven Smith, who fell five short of a century of his own and put on 65 with Glenn Maxwell, who struck 88 off only 39 balls in an astonishing innings mixing brutal hitting with improvisation.
Brad Haddin rounded off the innings with 20 from nine balls. Afghanistan's new-ball pair Dawlat Zadran and Shapoor Zadran took two wickets apiece, though Dawlat's 10 overs went for 101 and Shapoor gave up 89 runs.
Australia's total surpassed the 413 for five posted by India against Bermuda in the 2007 tournament. Until this year that was the only 400-plus total in World Cup history, but Australia's effort follows South Africa scoring 408 against West Indies and 411 against Ireland.
