Bangladesh have called up Shafiul Islam as a replacement for fellow paceman Al-Amin Hossain in their World Cup squad.
Fast bowler Hossain was sent home from Bangladesh’s World Cup campaign after breaching team rules.
The International Cricket Council confirmed the replacement is being allowed under exceptional circumstances.
The 25-year-old Hossain was not in the playing eleven for Bangladesh’s opening win over Afghanistan on February 18, which the Tigers won by 105 runs.
Shafiul, who made his one-day international debut in 2010, will link up with Bangladesh as they prepare to face Sri Lanka on February 26 before their matches against Scotland, England and New Zealand respectively.
Shafiul has played 52 ODIs for Bangladesh and boasts 58 wickets to his name.
The Tigers’ second Pool A match – against Australia – had to be abandoned without a ball bowled owing to inclement weather and both teams took a point each.
