County champions Yorkshire have continued their recruitment for 2015 with the signing of Pakistan international Younus Khan.
Younus has previous experience at Headingley, as the top-order batsman became the county’s first overseas star from Pakistan when he played for them in 2007.
The right-hander will make his debut for Yorkshire in the LV= County Championship opener against Worcestershire on April 12 and will be present for the first half of the season before making way for Australian Aaron Finch, who has signed on after a successful spell last year.
Younus, who will hope to fire Pakistan’s batting in the 2015 World Cup, said: “It is a great honour to be returning to Headingley and playing for Yorkshire.
“This is one of the finest cricket clubs in the world.
“Yorkshire are going well and deserved to win the title last year. I hope my experiences in the first-class game will help them maintain their position at the top of the County Championship.
“The County Championship is regarded as one of the best domestic competitions in the world and to test myself in English conditions can only enhance my game.
“I’m looking forward to meeting my new team-mates and also reuniting myself with Dizzy (Jason Gillespie), who I played alongside in 2007. He is a great coach and I can’t wait to work with him.”
The 37-year-old Younus boasts 824 runs from 19 championship innings from his 2007 spell, including a brilliant 217 against Kent.
He is also Pakistan’s all-time leading century maker in Tests, after equalling the record of Inzamam-ul-Haq last year against Australia, and later crossing that mark.
Yorkshire director of cricket Martyn Moxon said: “We have been looking for a world-class batsman to strengthen our batting department at the start of the season.
“Younus fits the bill and will add real quality to our top-order.”
