Pakistan international Sohail Tanvir is set to bolster Somerset’s Natwest T20 Blast hopes this season after putting pen to paper on a deal.
Tanvir, who boasts 42 Twenty20 international caps, will link up with the County Ground outfit for the 2015 season, having played T20 cricket in various parts of the world including in the Indian Premier League.
Primarily a left-arm seamer, Tanvir helped Pakistan reach the final of the World Twenty20 in 2007, and Somerset director of cricket Matt Maynard is delighted with the acquisition.
Maynard said: “Sohail Tanvir is a quality top-order bowler and a dangerous lower-order batsman.
“There is no doubt that he will be an extremely useful addition to the squad for the NatWest T20 Blast this year.
“He is an experienced international cricketer who will provide us with something a little bit different. I worked with him at St Lucia Zouks and he was our star performer so I am looking forward to teaming up with him again.”
Tanvir’s career highlights also include a devastating bowling spell in the IPL in 2008 when he grabbed figures of 6-14 for Rajasthan Royals against heavyweights Chennai Super Kings.
The 30-year-old made his Pakistan debut in the World T20 in September 2007, picking one wicket in a group game against India.
Tanvir will join compatriot Abdur Rehman in the Somerset side, after the latter was confirmed as an overseas player in November.
