Pakistan head into their final World Cup warm-up match against England on Wednesday with a win under their belts following a narrow three-wicket triumph over Bangladesh in Sydney.

Pakistan paceman Mohammad Irfan, with figures of 5-52, helped dismiss Bangladesh for 246 in their warm-up match in Sydney

Sohaib Maqsood, with nine fours and two sixes, led the way with an unbeaten 93 from 90 deliveries as the 1992 tournament winners chased 247 with 11 balls to spare at the Blacktown Olympic Park Oval.

Mohammad Irfan’s 5-52 had dismissed Bangladesh for 246 after Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah struck half-centuries in a third-wicket stand of 168.

South Africa also triumphed in their first run-out, securing a five-wicket Duckworth/Lewis victory over Sri Lanka at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch.

Tillakaratne Dilshan’s 83-ball 100 and 58 from skipper Angelo Mathews lifted their side, who fielded fit-again paceman Lasith Malinga, to 279 for seven when rain curtailed their innings after 44.4 overs.

South Africa, chasing 188 in 25 overs, were coasting to victory at 116 without loss in the 16th courtesy of Quinton de Kock and Hashim Amla's opening stand.

But the Proteas lost five wickets, including de Kock and Amla for 66 and 46 respectively, for 52 runs to leave the game in the balance.

Rilee Rossouw and Vernon Philander made the most of the pressure situation, though, guiding South Africa, without skipper AB de Villiers as a precaution, home with three balls remaining.

World Cup co-hosts New Zealand’s encounter with Zimbabwe at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln ended in a no-result due to the wet weather.

Martin Guptill stood out in a disappointing batting display, contributing 100 of the Black Caps’ 157 for seven when the elements arrived after 30.1 overs.
