Pakistan have suffered another blow with the news that experienced batting all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez will miss the World Cup due to injury.
Having lost the services of paceman Junaid Khan, Pakistan will also be without Hafeez due to a calf problem.
The 34-year-old, banned from bowling his off-spin after the International Cricket Council deemed his action to be illegal, sustained the injury while batting during the second one-day international with New Zealand on Tuesday.
Nasir Jamshed, who has won 45 ODI caps, will replace Hafeez in Pakistan’s 15-man squad, a move which the ICC approved.
A statement read: The ICC has confirmed that the Event Technical Committee of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 has approved Nasir Jamshed as a replacement player for Mohammad Hafeez in Pakistan’s squad for the tournament, which starts on 14 February.”
Pakistan kick-off their World Cup campaign against rivals India at the Adelaide Oval next Sunday.
