England Cricket Team sponsor Waitrose has offered its support to an innovative Hampshire Cricket in the Community project at the Ageas Bowl.
The Ageas Bowl’s Market Garden has been established by Hampshire Cricket’s official charity as part of a training project aimed to support people who are out of work.
In partnership with Groundwork South, the project offers people in Hampshire the opportunity to gain new skills, qualifications and improve confidence to help them find work.
Waitrose in Chandlers Ford are supporting the project with funding from their “Community Matters” programme and by providing participants with access to their Grow and Sell Seed Kits to help them begin growing their own produce at school.
Once completed, the garden will be an integral part of Hampshire Cricket in the Community’s education programme providing school groups with the opportunity to learn about the importance of healthy lifestyles from some of the Hampshire cricketers.
Hampshire cricket in the community manager Greig Stewart said: “We’re excited to be working with Groundwork South to establish and maintain this facility and are grateful to our team of aspiring horticulturalists who have been developing the site as part of a wider programme of training.”
We are grateful to Waitrose for their support in creating a unique programme to support schools to educate young people on the importance of living healthy lifestyles by striking a balance between the importance of diet and physical activity in one inspirational location.
