Lancashire have added former South Africa batsman Alviro Petersen to their ranks on a two-year deal.
Petersen announced his retirement from international cricket earlier this month after helping South Africa to a Test series win over West Indies.
The 34-year-old finished his Proteas career with 36 Tests, scoring five centuries, and will now link up with Lancashire as a non-overseas player, subject to official clearance.
Lancashire confirmed the option of a third year on his deal, while Petersen previously boasts county experience with Somerset, Essex and Glamorgan.
The right-hander said of his move: “I feel that at 34 it is time for me to retire from international cricket and to move on with my career.
“I am delighted to be joining Lancashire County Cricket Club who are a massive club with some outstanding facilities at their Emirates Old Trafford home.
“In Ashley Giles they have a top coach who will move the county in the right direction.”
Petersen began his Test career in some style, scoring a century on debut against India in Kolkata in February 2010, while he also made a fine 182 against England at Headingley in August 2012.
