Notts captain David Hussey hailed Michael Lumb after the left-hander’s brutal innings against Durham Dynamos helped preserve the Outlaws' unbeaten record in this season’s Friends Life t20.

Lumb smashed 14 fours and a trio of sixes in a stunning 52-ball 96 that ensured Notts comfortably chased down a target of 155, for the loss of two wickets, with 27 deliveries unused.

A partnership of 91 with fellow England Twenty20 opener Alex Hales, who made 34, set the tone for the Outlaws to complete a fourth successive triumph.

When asked about Lumb, Hussey told ecb.co.uk:“He was fantastic. He deserved a 110-120 not out the way he played and the way he struck the ball from ball one.

“He put the dressing room at ease and to chase a total like that and to see a star batsman play like that is just beautiful.

“I thought 180-190 was probably about par which is full credit to our bowlers and fielders. Keeping them to 150 and then seeing that batting display by Hales and Lumb, wow!”

Notts have excelled in limited-overs cricket this term and sit pretty at the top of their respected groups in the FLt20 and Yorkshire Bank 40.

After their early consistency in both competitions, Hussey has his sights set on silverware.

The Australian added: “A batting display like that probably doesn’t happen all the time. The win up here, especially after a difficult game up at Derbyshire, was fantastic and now we can hit the ground running.

“Hopefully we can continue on for the rest of the season; we’ve got a couple of big trophies to win.”
