Chris Rogers revealed he is looking forward to coming up against familiar opposition when he leads out the Prime Minister’s XI against England tomorrow.
The former Middlesex captain was called in to the side as skipper after Mike Hussey was ruled out with injury, and will be coming up against former team-mates in Eoin Morgan and Steven Finn.
The in-form Australia Test opener said: “It’s going to be very enjoyable playing against a lot of guys I know and a lot of guys in our side that I haven’t had a lot to do with so I’m really looking forward to that.
“Being involved in this with the tradition that comes with it is a great honour so I’m just going to enjoy it.”
Despite this, he is looking to strike a blow to England’s Tri-Series campaign before it has even started, adding: “I think it could be a very good game. We have a lot of talent in our side, who are very eager to do well, so it would be nice to get one up on England.”
Coach Phil Jaques, a former Australia batsman, thinks the hosts may be able to surprise England.
“It should be a good contest and a good hit out for England – hopefully we can do the right thing and beat them tomorrow," he said.
“I think they’ll be expecting to go out and win but I think we’ve got a couple of players that can sneak up on them so hopefully we can put on a good performance and put on a show for the crowd.”
