Mohammad Tauqir will skipper United Arab Emirates at the World Cup.
The Dubai-born all-rounder replaces fellow 43-year-old Khurram Khan, who reverts to vice-captain after six years in the role.
Pakistan-born Khan, the oldest one-day international centurion, was appointed as captain in July 2008 but the Emirates Cricket Board have appointed Tauqir because they see it “as a great opportunity to promote and showcase Emirati leadership and playing skills on the international sporting stage, and at the same time aims to raise the profile of the sport within the Emirati community.”
A middle-order batsman and off-spinner, Tauqir has previously led his country during a 10-year alliance with UAE cricket.
UAE kick-off their World Cup Group B campaign against Zimbabwe before playing Ireland, India, Pakistan, South Africa and West Indies.
UAE World Cup squad: Mohammed Tauqir (captain), Khurram Khan, Swapnil Patil, Saqlain Haider, Amjad Javed, Shaiman Anwar, Amjad Ali, Nasir Aziz, Rohan Mustafa, Manjula Guruge, Andri Berenger, Fahad Al Hashmi, Muhammad Naveed, Kamran Shahzad, Krishna Karate.
