Glamorgan ease past struggling Bears

Unbeaten Glamorgan kept their Friends Life t20 campaign humming along when exposing Warwickshire Bears’ current frailty in cruising to an eight-wicket win with 14 deliveries to spare at Rugby School.

Australian Michael Hogan took 3-11 in four overs and Mark Wallace quickly made nonsense of the home side's struggle to 126 for eight by racing to an unbeaten 69 from 52 balls.

After winning the LV= County Championship last summer, Warwickshire have mustered just two victories in 16 completed games this year.

A sluggish pitch suited Glamorgan's strategy of using three spinners in a bid to improve one of the least successful records in the competition - so far the plan is working as the Welsh side boast a 100% record and top the Midlands/Wales/West Group.

Adding on a win in the final match of the 2012 campaign, also against Warwickshire at Edgbaston, they have now reeled off four t20 successes in a row for the first time.

There was an element of self-destruction as Warwickshire lost their first three wickets for 29 and the first hint of a recovery was choked off when Varun Chopra drilled to extra-cover after putting on 38 with Chris Woakes.

The lower order managed to pick up the tempo, but the immaculate Hogan captured two wickets while conceding only one run from the last five balls of the innings.

Having reached 100 as late as the 18th over - which was bowled by Graham Wagg, the only Rugby-born player in the match - Warwickshire simply did not have enough runs to test Glamorgan's new-found confidence.

The Welshmen got off to a flier with Jim Allenby pinging five fours before he was caught at cover for 24 in Chris Wright's first over.

Warwickshire's sparse tally of a dozen boundaries was surpassed as early as the eighth over and Wallace completed his first fifty in the competition during a stand of 66 with Chris Cooke.
