Stuart Binny and Akshar Patel are the notable inclusions in India's 15-man World Cup squad but there is no place for fellow all-rounder Yuvraj Singh.
Yuvraj was player of the tournament when India lifted the trophy on home soil four years ago and, although he has not played a one-day-international in over 12 months, there were suggestions the 33-year-old would earn a shock recall.
Those rumours have proved unfounded, with Binny and Patel selected instead to play in Australia and New Zealand, despite having made just six and nine ODI appearances respectively.
Another all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and fast bowler Ishant Sharma have also been included despite ongoing injury concerns.
There are no major surprises in the squad, which will continue to be led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who last week relinquished the Test captaincy and retired from the format.
Seamers Mohit Sharma and Dhawal Kulkarni will travel Down Under for the triangular series involving Australia and England which acts as a warm-up for the World Cup.
India begin their campaign in the global event on February 15 against fierce rivals Pakistan.
