Yorkshire and England paceman Liam Plunkett was the pick of the EPP bowling attack, taking 4-39 against the North West Dragons

Liam Plunkett took four wickets and Sam Robson struck an unbeaten half-century as the England Performance Programme dominated the opening day of two versus South African side North West Dragons in Potchefstroom.

The England and Yorkshire paceman, swinging the ball away from the bat, returned figures of 4-39 to help dismiss the hosts for 218 inside 58 overs.

Opening batsman Robson then contributed 53 of the EPP’s 103 for one at the close to leave them well placed to win the game on first-innings scores.

In a contest providing the EPP with match practice ahead of the Lions returning after Christmas, Plunkett was one of five bowlers to take wickets.

Boyd Rankin and Matt Dunn, of Warwickshire and Surrey respectively, both snared two scalps while Yorkshire pair Jack Brooks and Adil Rashid claimed one each.

Wihan Lubbe led the way for the Dragons with the bat, hitting an unbeaten 59 from number eight.

In reply the EPP, skippered by England international Gary Ballance, lost Adam Lyth when he was caught behind for 17 with the score on 36.

But Lyth’s Yorkshire team-mate Alex Lees, with 26 not out off 53 deliveries, shared in an unbroken second-wicket stand of 67 with Robson to put the EPP in pole position to push for victory tomorrow.
