Head coach Paul Grayson has predicted a bright future for Jamie Porter, Callum Taylor and Thomas Moore after they signed contracts with Essex.

The young trio will now stay at the Essex County Ground until September 2016.

Seamers Porter and Moore both made their first-class debuts for Essex in 2014 while emerging all-rounder Taylor was a permanent fixture in the club’s second XI.

Twenty-one-year-old Porter, the second XI’s leading wicket-taker in 2014, made his LV= County Championship bow against Kent in early September and played three matches as Essex narrowly missed out on promotion to the top flight.

Former Brentwood player Moore, a year older than Porter, was signed on a short-term deal ahead of the four-day clash with Surrey in May, the first of four first-class appearances, and also represented the Eagles in the NatWest T20 Blast encounter with Hampshire.

Taylor, 17, struck a half-century in the second XI championship final against Leicestershire.

Grayson said: “Jamie has shown excellent promise this season, firstly with Barry Hyam in the second team, and of course since he made his debut for the first team. The same goes for Callum, who is a promising young all-rounder.

“Tom came in when we were struggling with injuries early last season, and performed well. It’s great to be in position to sign him properly.

“We are delighted with the progress all three are making and see them as an important part of our future.

“It is something we are really committed to here at Essex, namely developing our youth players and giving them a chance to play first XI cricket.”
