Denesh Ramdin has been retained as West Indies Test captain for the tour of South Africa as the Caribbean side attempt to put their ongoing dispute with India to one side.

Ramdin was part of the team that dramatically left India midway through their one-day international series following a disagreement over a contract agreement signed by the West Indies Cricket Board and the players' association (WIPA).

With one more ODI, three Tests and one Twenty20 match unfulfilled, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has demanded £26.2million damages claim against the WICB.

While that has yet to be resolved, the Windies are keen to move on and eight players who were part of the India tour have also been called up to take on the Proteas in a three-match Test series, which gets under way in Centurion next month.

Sulieman Benn, Darren Bravo, Jason Holder, Leon Johnson, Kemar Roach, Marlon Samuels and Jerome Taylor are the other players to have been retained in a full-strength Test squad, which also contains swashbuckling opening batsman Chris Gayle, who has recovered from a hamstring injury.West Indies are keeping faith with Denesh Ramdin for the upcoming tour of South Africa despite the team’s pull-out in India

Chairman of selectors Clive Lloyd said: "Of course at all times the selection panel aims to select the best and strongest team available. We look forward to this squad giving a good account of themselves for the three Tests in South Africa."

However, seeking to avoid a repeat of the controversial withdrawal a statement on the WICB official website added: "All players selected have been notified of their selection and that their selection is contingent upon their signing of the Match Tour Contract which was sent to each player selected on Tuesday November 11.

"The deadline for the return of signed Match Tour Contracts to the WICB is 5pm (ECT), Tuesday, November 18."

Dwayne Bravo, who was captaining the side when the Windies abandoned the tour in India, said last week that he expected a full-strength squad to be named after the WICB and WIPA held emergency talks in an effort to resolve the row.

Bravo himself has not been named in the 15-man squad, but the 31-year-old earned the last of his 40 Test caps in December 2010 after devoting himself to the limited-overs formats in recent years.

The Windies will also play three Twenty20 internationals before a five-match ODI series against South Africa in the new year and it remains to be seen whether Bravo will retain his place as captain of the 50-over side.
