Australia won their fourth successive Twenty20 series after sneaking home with a ball to spare in their decider against South Africa in Sydney.
Cameron White completed a nervy pursuit of 145 for six with an unbeaten 41 from 31 balls, scampering the winning run with number 10 Cameron Boyce at the other end.
Australia had needed only three from the last over but made heavy work of it.
After Kyle Abbott trapped Sean Abbott in front, South Africa were almost dreaming of the impossible only for a Robin Peterson throw to narrowly miss the stumps after White had given up making his ground.
A direct-hit would have left last man Doug Bollinger needing to score two from two balls, but White was reprieved to allow him to complete a two-wicket win and wrap up the series 2-1.
South Africa shot out of the blocks through openers Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks - both fell just short of half-centuries - only to lose their way in the latter overs.
James Faulkner claimed 3-28, removing skipper JP Duminy and David Wiese in the penultimate over, as the Proteas had to settle for a below-par score.
Australia captain Aaron Finch then gave the hosts the platform for victory, blasting 33 from 25 balls, but South Africa were able to take consistent wickets to remain in the game.
Wiese and Peterson took three wickets apiece, but in the end White’s experience proved the difference as he kept his cool to steer Australia home.
The opening game of their five-match one-day international series begins in Perth in Friday.
South Africa will be without Duminy for those games after he was ruled out after the match following news he had aggravated a long-term problem in his left knee.
Farhaan Behardien is set to remain in Australia as his replacement while Marchant de Lange will also stay to bolster the fast-bowling options.
