Ambati Rayudu's maiden international century guided India to a comfortable victory in the second one-day international against short-notice tourists Sri Lanka.

Rayudu finished on 121 not out as the home side sealed a six-wicket success with 33 balls to spare in Ahmedabad, establishing a 2-0 lead with three games to play.

For Sri Lanka, drafted in for an unscheduled series due to the cancelled West Indies trip, it already seems to be an exercise in damage limitation.

India, though, are benefiting handsomely from the fixtures, with Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli also finding some good form following a 169-run win in the series opener in which Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane hit centuries.

Sri Lanka, having opted to bat first, played out their 50 overs but a total of 274 for eight never looked likely to contain a hungry Indian batting card.

Ambati Rayudu eased India to a comfortable victory, which doubled their series lead over Sri Lanka, with an unbeaten ton at Ahmedabad

Touring captain Angelo Mathews’ unbeaten 92 from 101 deliveries built on Kumar Sangakkara’s smooth 61 was supported by late hitting from Dhammika Prasad, who chipped in with 30 not out at better than a run a ball.

Left-arm spinner Akshar Patel was India’s most economical bowler, one of three to strike twice, his 10 overs costing 39 runs.

Once Rahane went early in the reply, Dhawan and Rayudu combined for a stand worth 122 until the former departed for 79 at almost a run a ball.

Rayudu and Kohli also shared a century partnership although the latter, standing in as skipper for the rested Mahendra Singh Dhoni, fell one short of a fifty.

Suresh Raina came and went before Rayudu, playing in his 21st ODI, completed proceedings with his 10th four to go with four sixes.
