Fast bowler George Edwards has joined Lancashire following his release by Surrey in September.
The 22-year-old, who made 10 first-team appearances for Surrey, has signed a two-year deal at Emirates Old Trafford where Ashely Giles became cricket director and head coach a month ago.
Giles has already released seamers Kabir Ali and Oliver Newby, while Kyle Hogg was forced to retire through injury, albeit Nathan Buck's arrival has offset their departures and the likelihood that Glen Chapple will make fewer appearances now he has reverted from captain to player/coach.
Giles said: “George is a young, fast bowler with great potential and will be a great addition to our seam bowling unit.
“After losing the services of Kyle Hogg, and with Glen Chapple perhaps playing a limited role, this is an area that we need to strengthen.
“This is a great opportunity for George and we are delighted to have him on board. I wish him well with his career at Emirates Old Trafford.”
Edwards took 4-44 versus Worcestershire on his LV= County Championship debut in 2012 and was invited on an ECB training camp to South Africa in 2013.
The Londoner, who was offered the opportunity to join the MCC Young Cricketers Programme on his release by Surrey, added: “I’m very happy to sign for Lancashire. They are a club with a great history and Emirates Old Trafford is such a fantastic cricket ground.
“As soon as I met Ashley and had a chat with him I knew immediately that I wanted to join Lancashire.
“I am looking forward to meeting my new team-mates on Monday and to start pre-season training.”
