England women receive team nomination

The England women’s team have made the shortlist for the Team of the Year in the 2014 Sunday Times and Sky Sports Sportswomen of the Year Awards, which is to be decided by the public vote.

The British public will have the chance to vote for Charlotte Edwards’ side after another exceptional year in which they retained the Ashes with a 10-8 victory over Australia, before finishing runners-up in the World T20 and recording series wins over Indiaand South Africa this summer.

The success of the side was such that the captain was nominated for the coveted 2014 ICC People’s Choice Award, becoming the first ever female cricketer to receive the honour.

England retained the Ashes with a 10-8 victory of Australia and also reached the final of the World T20 before another excellent summer

Edwards’ side will go up against the England rugby union team, the Great Britain 4 x 100 athletics relay squad and rowers Helen Glover and Heather Stanning.

The award will be decided by the British public, who have the opportunity to vote online for the leading female sports team of this year. Seven further awards will be decided by an independent panel of judges.

The Awards, in their 27th year, celebrate the outstanding contribution to sport made by elite performers, coaches, administrators, community volunteers and inspirational female figures.

The ceremony will be broadcast live on Sky Sports on Wednesday 19 November and further details on the event, including how to vote, can be found on the Sky Sports website.
