Zimbabwe seamer Tinashe Panyangara’s maiden five-wicket haul restricted Bangladesh to a 14-run first-innings lead in the opening Test at Mirpur.

Panyangara’s consistent strikes allied to three run-outs denied Bangladesh the chance to build a more significant advantage on a turning wicket they must bat last on.

Mominul Haque, Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim all hit half-centuries without going past 65.

Mominul was the first of the run-outs to blight Bangladesh’s innings with the left-hander failing to ground his bat as Sikandar Raza’s throw hit the target.

Taijul Islam was bowled by Tinashe Panyangara to become the fourth of the Zimbabwe seamer's career-best five victims

Shakib Al Hasan, who claimed six wickets to restrict Zimbabwe to 240, was then the victim of bad calling and Tendai Chatara’s athleticism shortly after lunch to leave Bangladesh 114 for four.

Panyangara had already removed both openers and when Mahmudullah was pinned lbw sweeping at Raza’s part-time spin the home tail was left with a tough task of just getting Bangladesh ahead.

Captain Mushfiqur led the way with his 64, the best of the innings, only to pull a short Panyangara delivery to square-leg.

The Tigers crept passed Zimbabwe’s first-innings tally eight wickets down only for Panyangara to clean up the last two and return a career-best 5-59.

Zimbabwe openers Vusi Sibanda and Regis Chakabva then saw out the final two overs of the day, reducing their deficit by five runs.
