Warwickshire director of cricket Dougie Brown believes Jonathan Trott is still one of the best batsmen in England after he agreed a three-year contract to stay at Edgbaston.
Trott was one of the Bears’ leading lights as they went within touching distance of a rare trophy treble last summer.
The 33-year-old made a belated start to the season, after leaving England’s winter Ashes tour of Australia due to a stress-related illness, but piled up 1,156 runs across all formats.
He hit three centuries in eight LV= County Championship matches and two more followed in the Royal London One-Day Cup – helping him to be the competition’s second-highest run-scorer- as the Bears reached the Lord’s final.
“Jonathan played some of the best cricket of his career in the second half of last season and he showed that he remains one of the leading batsmen in the English game,” Brown said.

“It’s been great to see him enjoying his cricket and make such a big contribution to the team’s strong finish to the season.
“He loves Warwickshire and playing cricket at Edgbaston, and everyone connected with the club is thrilled to see him commit long-term.”
Trott, who has played 49 Tests and is currently Warwickshire’s beneficiary, was pleased to extend his stay at a club where he has won two county championship titles since signing his first professional deal in 2003.
“Warwickshire CCC is a very special club for me and my family and I would like to thank everyone associated with the club for their support,” he said.
“It has always been a great honour to represent the Bears and I am delighted to commit to the club once again for a further three years.
“Hopefully we can build on the success of this year by achieving greater success in the years to come.”
