Australia continued their remarkable one-day international record against Pakistan by clinching their three-match series with a comfortable five-wicket win in Dubai.
Australia have not lost a 50-over series to Pakistan since 2002 and their latest success was confirmed after Pakistan were rattled out for 215.
Glenn Maxwell’s 76 from 81 balls then broke the back of the chase as Australia coasted to the target with 40 balls to spare.
It was a surprisingly wide-margin result after Pakistan openers Ahmed Shehzad and Sarfraz Ahmed put on 126 to lay the foundation for a more significant total.
But their problems with the bat kicked in again as they lost their last eight wickets for 56. Mitchell Johnson was, as ever, in the think of the damage as he took 3-40.
Pakistan struck a couple of early blows with the ball, prising out Aaron Finch and first-game centurion Steve Smith, but Maxwell was at ease in the turning conditions to take the game away.
Zulfiqar Babar finally accounted for the all-rounder, when he top-edged a sweep trying the finish the job quickly, before James Faulkner and Brad Haddin saw Australia home with a 39-run stand.
Faulkner applied the finishing touches with back-to-back boundaries off Mohammad Irfan to ensure Australia would head to Abu Dhabi for the final game on Sunday with the series won.
