David Warner hit an unbeaten half-century to see Australia home in a low-scoring Twenty20 contest against Pakistan in Dubai.

It was new captain Aaron Finch's first game in charge and he faced another new skipper in Shahid Afridi, but it was Finch's men who emerged victorious by six wickets with six overs left in the one-off game that precedes three one-day internationals and two Tests between the teams.

Afridi got his side off to a good start by winning the toss, but a new-look Australia were on top straight away as Glenn Maxwell helped run through the top order with three quick wickets.

David Warner scores his 11th Twenty20 international half-century. Only Brendon McCullum (15) and Chris Gayle (12) have more

Saad Nasim top-scored for the hosts with 25 before Wahab Riaz and Raza Hasan added some late runs, but they could only help Pakistan to 96 for nine in their 20 overs. Maxwell was the pick of the bowlers with 3-13, while debutant Cameron Boyce also impressed with 2-10.

Finch fell early in the Australia reply, and there was a hiccup when Maxwell, Steven Smith and Phil Hughes went in quick succession.

However, Warner stood strong to finish unbeaten on 53 from 39 balls to see his side over the line with James Faulkner.
