Essex spinner Tim Phillips has retired, ending his 16-season career at Chelmsford.
The 33-year-old was a front-line slow bowler for Essex in limited-overs cricket this season, but had seen his chances in the LV= County Championship limited.
Phillips made 20 appearances in the shorter formats, helping the Eagles top the NatWest T20 Blast South Group, highlighted by his unbeaten 33 from 13 balls to snatch victory against Middlesex Panthers at the Essex County Ground.
He made just two championship appearances this term, however, and has opted to call time on his career with 132 first-class wickets in 78 games.
“I have enjoyed my career and the friendships I have made during my 16 years representing Essex CCC but I am really excited to start a new challenge,” Phillips said.
“I would like to take this opportunity to wish the club all the best for the future.”
Head coach Paul Grayson added: “Tim has been a very loyal member of our squad over the years, and was a key part of our successful one-day teams.
"I would like to thank him for all his years of service, and wish him the best for the future.”
Phillips claimed 159 limited-overs wickets for Essex, in 170 games, to have a career haul of 291 across all three formats.
