Bopara, with 1,482 runs to his name in all three formats this term, was recalled to England’s squad for November’s tour of Sri Lanka on Wednesday and has featured in 13 Tests, 108 one-day internationals and 38 Twenty20s for his country.
Essex head coach Paul Grayson said: “I am absolutely delighted that Ravi has signed his new contract.
“He has become one of the senior figures in our dressing room, and is a key component of our side in each form of the game.
“He has been with Essex for a long time, and it is great news for all our members and fans that he has signed his new deal.”
