James Tomlinson helped to seal the LV= County Championship Division Two title for Hampshire after a return of 6-48 saw his side to a massive 291-run victory over Glamorgan inside three days.
Hampshire had gone into the final match knowing a simple victory would gain them the second promotion place despite Essex breathing down their necks, and they came out of the match with 23 points to seal top spot at Worcestershire’s expense.
Jimmy Adams' side went into the third day in a very strong position with an overall lead of 360 with seven second-innings wickets remaining.
They declared before lunch at 258 for nine, leaving Glamorgan needing 444 for victory in a minimum of 177 overs.
The hosts were then bowled out for a paltry 152 in only 33.4 overs, with the only real resistance coming from 17-year-old debutant Aneurin Donald with a maiden first-class half-century from 52 balls.
Jacques Rudolph, who had received his Glamorgan cap before the start of play, and Will Bragg, who reached 1,000 first-class runs for the season, offered a modicum early resistance.
But Tomlinson began his impressive bowling effort by claiming the vital wicket of Rudolph lbw, and next ball Mark Wallace edged to James Vince at third slip.
It left Glamorgan 31 for two, which became 41 for three as Tomlinson trapped Chris Cooke leg before.
After Glamorgan reached 54 for three at lunch, the impressive Tomlinson struck a further three times in the afternoon in the space of eight balls to remove Bragg, David Lloyd and Jim Allenby. Bragg and Lloyd both went lbw while Allenby was caught behind.
Glamorgan's capitulation continued as Graham Wagg was bowled before Dean Cosker became Chris Wood's first victim of the innings.
Hampshire's charge for victory was held up by the impressive Donald, who went to his half-century with a six off Imran Tahir, before Wood struck to dismiss the youngster. He was caught at fine-leg by Tahir, who then bowled Kieran Bull in the next over to confirm the victory.
Earlier, Hampshire had set Glamorgan a formidable and unlikely victory target.
Realistically Glamorgan had little to play for apart from individual landmarks. Michael Hogan required three wickets for 100 in all forms of cricket while Allenby needed one more victim to reach 50 first-class scalps for 2014, which he duly got when Tom Alsop was bowled.
Adam Wheater and Vince took the Hampshire lead past 400 before the former edged a wide delivery behind and the latter drove Hogan straight to mid-off.
Hampshire found themselves 231 for seven when Allenby had Wood caught at cover but Hampshire remained firmly in the driving seat.
Allenby claimed his fifth wicket as Sean Ervine miscued a drive to long-on before Matt Coles holed out to deep midwicket and became the all-rounder's sixth victim.
It left Allenby with figures of 6-54, completing a 10-wicket match haul in the process.
