Ireland seamer Graeme McCarter will leave Gloucestershire when his contract expires at the end of the season, the club have announced.

The 21-year-old, who is in contention to be part of Ireland’s squad for next year’s World Cup, has failed to establish himself at Gloucestershire.

He is currently on international duty, having last week been called up to Ireland’s tour of Australia and New Zealand.

McCarter joined the county’s academy programme in the winter of 2008 and has represented Ireland at under-13, U15 and U19 levels.

He signed a full-time summer contract in November 2010, which culminated in a professional deal for the 2012 season.

Graeme McCarter has come through the Gloucestershire ranks but the 21-year-old has not done enough to earn a contract extension

The 2012 campaign saw him make his LV= County Championship debut and play in two 40-over games, taking 3-41 against Middlesex at Lord’s and 3-15 versus Leicestershire at Bristol.

He added five more championship appearances in 2013 plus five in the Yorkshire Bank 40 and this summer was selected for two championship fixtures and 13 games in the NatWest T20 Blast.

Gloucestershire director of cricket John Bracewell said: “It is a shame that Graeme was unable to sustain the development he showed as an academy graduate.

“Graeme has been great to have around the squad and was always willing to work for the team.

“We wish him well for the future and hope to see him win a place in Ireland’s squad for the 2015 World Cup.”
