Recap day three in this crucial round of LV= County Championship games. There was a record-breaking day for Durham's Chris Rushworth while Middlesex and Hampshire struggled in the crucial matches.
By Callum Dent, Will Jackson & Matt Somerford
5.50pm - Here is a round-up of the scores after day three:
Middlesex were made to follow on against Somerset despite spirited resistance from Eoin Morgan and Toby Roland-Jones earlier in the day. They finished on 140 for one thanks to Chris Rogers' unbeaten 97.
Sussex cantered to 244 for three before bad light brought an end to play with them 222 runs in the lead. Ed Joyce hit his seventh century of the season after Nottinghamshire had posted 413 in their first innings.
A remarkable spell of bowling from Chris Rushworth earned Durham an innings-and-219-run victory over Northamptonshire. Rushworth took 15 wickets in one day, including 9-52 in the first innings to demolish the visitors' batting line-up.
Sean Ervine's century led a spirited lower-order fightback for Hampshire before they were bowled out for 351 and made to follow on. They fared much better second time round, reaching 110 for one at the close, still trailing Kent by 46 runs.
Derbyshire cantered to an eight-wicket win over Surrey thanks to Billy Godleman's first century for the county. Overseas star Cheteshwar Pujara finally found some form to finish unbeaten on 90 as the visitors reached their target of 251 with ease.
Stumps on day three at the Ageas Bowl. Hampshire finish on 110-1, trailing Kent by 46 runs. Smith (66*), Dawson (28*). #LVCC
— Hampshire Cricket (@hantscricket) September 17, 2014
5.03pm - Smith gets to his fifty and Hampshire have reduced Kent's lead to 70.
Joyce reaches 100 at just under a run-a-ball. Another excellent innings from the Sussex skipper, his seventh ton of the season, but the players are taken off for bad light shortly after and that could be the end of the day's play.
Wicket: Luke Wood picks up his third in the match, bowling Craig Cachopa. Sussex 224-3, leading by 202 #NottsvSuss
— Nottinghamshire CCC (@TrentBridge) September 17, 2014
4.52pm - Will Smith and Liam Dawson are combining effectively to help Hampshire to 68 for one as they seek to cancel out Kent's lead after being asked to follow on.
Sussex reach 200 as they push for as lead they might declare on overnight, or in early the morning.
4.40pm - Middlesex move passed 100. They still need another 200 to make Somerset bat again, but with just Sam Robson having exited they are making a far better fist of it second time around.

4.10pm - Notts finally end a 152-run stand for the second wicket between Chris Nash and Ed Joyce. It is Nash who goes, caught behnd off Luke Fletcher, after a breezy 85 that has helped to set up the prospect of a result. Their stand came at nearly a run-a-ball.
3.54pm - After being asked to bat again Hampshire have lost an early wicket with Jimmy Adams trapped in front by James Tredwell for six.
The Ageas Bowl is favouring the tweakers and Hampshire might sill fancy their chances if they can somehow eke out a lead. They've got Imran Tahir back to provide that world-class spin option on a fnial-day pitch. There is a lot of work to do with the bat before then though. There's 22 overs left today.
Rushy @rushworth22 carnage at the riverside today..never been a part of a game of cricket like this..
— Varun Aaron (@VarunAaron) September 17, 2014
3.40pm - It is not all just about Rushworth today - although it is hard to believe it. Middlesex skipper Chris Rogers has opted for aggression to allieviate his relegation-threatened side's problems at Taunton after being asked to follow-on. The Aussie reaches his fifty from 44 balls.
Tea has now been taken at Trent Bridge with Sussex 146 for one - that's a lead of 124 runs.
A day to remember for Chris Rushworth https://t.co/Z6MiQqkPx9

3.34pm - RESULT! Durham (392) have beaten Northamptonshire (83 & 90) by an innings and 219 runs - Chris Rushworth walks off to a standing ovation. Fifteen wickets in the day and the best ever match figures by a Durham bowler. The man deserves a beer...only he's not drinking in 2014 for charity. Get him that ice bath.
3.33pm - RESULT! Derbyshire (210 & 251/2) have beaten Surrey (181 & 279) by eight wickets - Derbyshire have now won four from their past five championship games as Godleman completes an excellent chase with a double off Tim Linley. He finishes unbeaten on 104 with Pujara 10 short of his century.
Rushworth has been given a rest after bowling 20 overs (including an innings break). Varun Aaron is on to bowl from the Lumley End. 86-8.
— Durham Cricket Club (@DurhamCricket) September 17, 2014
3.25pm - Billy Godleman gets to his hundred as Derbyshire coast towards victory against Surrey. It looks like Cheteshwar Pujara will fall just short of a maiden championship ton.
Ed Joyce and Chris Nash have both gone passed 50 at Trent Bridge.
3.21pm - Peter Chase is brought into the attack and it takes the Irishman two balls to dismiss Rossington, caught in the deep by Mark Stoneman. The end is nigh.
3.17pm - I reckon Rushworth is starting to show some signs of fatigue. Adam Rossington has just bopped him over the ropes before following it with a four. I think the Durham man can be forgiven. An ice bath awaits at tea!
RECORD! 15 WICKETS FOR @rushworth22! Match figures of 15 for 79 and Alan Walker's record is smashed. Northants are 58-7. Amazing...
— Durham Cricket Club (@DurhamCricket) September 17, 2014
3.08pm - Number 15 comes as Andrew Hall is bowled.
2.59pm - Rushworth didn't have a five-for all season, and he has two in one day now as he takes his 14th wicket. He now has Durham's best ever match figures, not a bad day!
The current Durham record for most wickets in a match belongs to Alan Walker, who took 14-177 against Essex in 1995. Rushworth has 13-72...
— Durham Cricket Club (@DurhamCricket) September 17, 2014
2.53pm - Hampshire have been asked to bat again after falling just short of the follow-on target. Ervine was the last man to depart for 122.
2.46pm - Three for Rushworth again in the second innings and Northamptonshire are facing being bowled out twice in a day. He quickly follows it up with his fourth as Newton edges behind.
2.39pm - Sean Ervine has made a vital century for Hampshire in their bid for promotion.
Pujara has passed fifty for the first time since joining Derbyshire and they look to be cruising towards victory.
WICKET! @rushworth22 has 11 in the match as Middlebrook leaves a straight one and his off-stump is ripped out of the ground. 21-3.
— Durham Cricket Club (@DurhamCricket) September 17, 2014
2.31pm - Northants have slipped to 18 for two already in Durham as their nightmare day continues, no surprises it's Rushworth who takes the wicket.
Sam Robson's miserable end to the summer continues as he's trapped lbw by Peter Trego.
2.23pm - There will be no 10-wicket haul for Rushworth second time either, as Stokes strikes to remove James Kettleborough for 14.
Hampshire are within 50 runs of avoiding the follow-on against Kent with the 10th-wicket partnership passing 60.
Follow on enforced and Rogers and Robson head out to bat with 55 minutes until tea, a minimum of 40 overs remain today.
— Middlesex Cricket (@Middlesex_CCC) September 17, 2014
Brilliant last wicket partnership this between Ervine (76*) & Tomlinson (5*). Hampshire have reached their third batting bonus point, 300-9.
— Hampshire Cricket (@hantscricket) September 17, 2014
2.09pm - Middlesex trail by 300 runs after being dismissed for 223 by Somerset.
2.07pm - Meanwhile Cheteshwar Pujara has made a good start to his innings as Derbyshire creep to within 100 runs of the total set by Surrey with eight wickets in tact.
Mike Yardy falls to Luke Fletcher early on, with his side still 12 runs in arrears.
9 - Chris Rushworth has taken the first nine-wicket haul of @LV_Cricket 2014. Hurry. @DurhamCricket
— OptaJim (@OptaJim) September 17, 2014
2.01pm - Rushworth finishes with 9-52 as Northants are dismissed for 83 at the Emirates Durham ICG.
1.55pm - There's a collective sigh around the country as Ben Stokes spoils Rushworth's chances of a remarkable 10-wicket haul for Durham. Maurice Chambers is the man to go, caught at slip.
Middx 201-9. Murtagh 0*, Sandhu 4*. A batting point achieved.
— Middlesex Cricket (@Middlesex_CCC) September 17, 2014
1.43pm - Number eight for Rushworth as Neil Wagner becomes the third duck of the Northants innings.
Morgan's stubborn knock of 82 is also over for Middlesex after he is dismissed by Jack Leach, and they too could be facing the follow-on imminently.
1.40pm - Rushworth has seven out of seven! He has picked up 7-36 in just over nine overs so far, incredible stuff!
Gary Keedy is the last man to go for Notts which means they have a slender first-innings lead of 22 runs over Sussex, while at Taunton, Toby Roland-Jones has finally perished for 77 following a partnership of 130 with Eoin Morgan.
Harry Gurney has plundered ten runs from Steve Magoffin and Lewis Hatchett, before the latter uproots his middle stump. 411-9 #NottsvSuss
— Nottinghamshire CCC (@TrentBridge) September 17, 2014
1.28pm - Imran Tahir has fallen moments after securing that extra point, could Hampshire be facing the follow-on shortly?
Chris Rushworth has the sixth wicket at Durham and Zafar Ansari has the important wicket of Wayne Madsen to damage Derbyshire's prospects.
Four from Tahir (13*) down the ground moves Hants to 252-8, their second batting bonus point. Ervine (35*). #LVCC
— Hampshire Cricket (@hantscricket) September 17, 2014
1.23pm - Rushworth has five! The Durham seamer picks up Rob Newton for a duck, could he be on for all 10?
At the Kia Oval, Derbyshire have lost their first man as Ben Slater falls to Jade Dernbach.
1.13pm - Nottinghamshire lose a wicket in the first over after the break as Luke Fletcher is trapped in front by Steve Magoffin.
Chris Rushworth's excellent spell continues after lunch and he's picked up his and Durham's fourth wicket of the innings to reduce Northamptonshire to 62 for four.

12.45pm - As promised, here is the state of play in the five matches:

Chris Rushworth snared three scalps to reduce Northamptonshire to 48 for three after New Zealand Test paceman Neil Wagner's five-wicket haul helped dismiss Durham for 392 at the Emirates Durham ICG.

12.28pm - Seam is now doing the damage at the Ageas Bowl, where Mitchell Claydon dismisses former team-mate Matt Coles to leave Hampshire 225 for eight. The hosts could well be following-on later.
Durham's Rushworth strikes for a second time, this time dismissing Kyle Coetzer, while Lewis Hatchett bowls Chris Read at Trent Bridge.
Lunch is approaching. We will round-up the scores for you shortly.
100 run partnership between Morgan 72* and Roland-Jones 55*
— Somerset Cricket (@SomersetCCC) September 17, 2014
12.12pm - Notts need eight off four balls for a maximum haul of batting bonus points. However, Samit Patel will not be contributing to that quest after he was stumped off Ashar Zaidi for 41.
Northants lose their first wicket at the Emirates Durham ICG, Chris Rushworth removing James Middlebrook.
12.06pm - Kent's spinners are excelling this morning. Tredwell reduces Hampshire to 212 for seven by dismissing Chris Wood lbw.

11.55am - England Under-19 international Tom Alsop does not last much longer, providing Adam Riley with a return catch to depart for 36.
Roland-Jones, alongside Morgan, is frustrating the Somerset attack with a half-century. Middlesex are 148 for seven and the eighth-wicket stand is now worth 87.
Lovely six down the ground from Alsop (33*) moves Hampshire to 200 and their first batting bonus point, 201-5. Ervine (7*). #LVCC

10.27am - Like it did on the opening day, bad light is causing problems at the Emirates Durham ICG, delaying the start of day three.
10.25am - While we wait for the action to start, why not read how promotion-chasing Essex ramped up the pressure on second-placed Hampshire with a two-day innnings victory over Leicestershire at Grace Road. There was more bad news for Leicestershire this morning as Josh Cobb's departure to Northamptonshire was announced.
10.20am - Good morning and welcome to live coverage of the penultimate day in this vital round of LV= County Championship games. Below is the state of play in the remaining five matches:
Relegation-threatened Middlesex face an uphill battle to save their game at Taunton after they were remarkably reduced to 64 for seven in reply to Somerset's mammoth 532 for nine declared, which included 182 from James Hildreth and Peter Trego’s 91.
Debutant Jake Libby and James Taylor struck centuries, the latter’s unbeaten, to move Nottinghamshire 81 runs behind Sussex on 310 for three at Trent Bridge.
Hundreds from Scott Borthwick and Paul Collingwood led Durham to 362 for eight after Northamptonshire won the toss on the second day of their rain-affected match at the Emirates Durham ICG.
Batting bonus points are on the agenda for promotion-chasing Hampshire, who resume on 127 for three in reply to Kent's 507 at the Ageas Bowl.
