Stuart Broadis confident he will be fit and ready for the World Cup in the winter as he prepares to undergo surgery on his knee.

The 28-year-old seamer will go under the knife for the first time today to fix a problem that has hampered him for the best part of a year.

“I’m looking forward to getting that done actually,” he told ecb.co.uk.

“It’s been around for a couple of years and it has been quite sore for eight or nine months.”

A window has opened in England’s schedule to allow Broad the time to fully complete a rehabilitation programme before the team flies out for the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

He will miss only the limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka in that time – as well as the current series with India – with England due to fly Down Under for a tri-series against Australia and India just before the World Cup campaign starts on February 14.

“It’s a really good period now to get the rehab 100% right, 14 weeks, and I’ve got no doubt in my mind that I’ll be fully fit for that flight to Australia if selected,” Broad said.

“I think that I’ll be cycling within a couple of weeks. The important thing to start off with is the scar, not getting it infected.

“I’m pretty nervous because I’ve never had an operation before but I’m in very good hands.”
