England's batsmen were blasted out after Suresh Raina's explosive century to suffer a 133-run defeat in the rain-affected second Royal London one-day international at the SWALEC Stadium.
Raina struck his first ODI century in four-and-a-half years from just 74 balls before India's bowlers skittled England for 161 in 38.1 overs.
Ravindra Jadeja's 4-28 inflicted most of the damage as England lost seven wickets to the slow bowlers.
Chris Woakes' 4-54 failed to prevent India racking up 304 for six - a target reduced to 295 from 47 overs after rain at the start of the England innings.
The pursuit began well with Alastair Cook and new opening partner Alex Hales combining for 54, but a collapse of five for 31 followed to send England spiralling.
Mohammed Shami began England's decline by trapping Cook lbw and bowling Ian Bell, who did not offer a shot, in the same over.
Joe Root was then undone by a Bhuvneshwar Kumar cracker, that nipped back in to his stumps, before Jadeja fooled Hales and Jos Buttler into offering catches in the ring.
Hales did offer a glimpse of his power on his ODI debut, initially moving quickly towards his innings-best 40, before the clatter of wickets irretrievably halted his, and England's, progress.
It meant a wide-margin defeat, to send England 1-0 down in the series, after Cook's side had arguably been in pole position midway through the India innings.
Raina's powerful innings changed all of that, however, as he took the lead role in a bruising 144-run partnership with his skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni in 111 balls.
The pair first served notice of the late carnage as they pummeled 62 from the batting powerplay to suddenly send England onto the back foot.
The runs continued to flow and, with Chris Jordan conceding 12 wides, England began to lose their way under the onslaught as a further 86 were added in the final 10 overs to push India beyond 300.
The target might have ballooned further but for Woakes, who eventually had Raina caught in the deep before fooling Dhoni with a slower ball out the back of the hand.
The Warwickshire right-armer had earlier struck twice in the same over to put the clamps on India as he and James Anderson revelled in cloudy conditions.
Woakes had Shikhar Dhawan caught behind and removed dangerman Virat Kohli without scoring when he drilled his third ball to Cook at mid-on.
India were 26 for two after 10 overs and still stumbling along, despite a patient Rohit Sharma half-century, well into their innings as James Tredwell's two wickets hinted at the effect the slow men would have.
But Raina and Dhoni then embarked on their game-changing stand and, when it came England's turn to respond, they were unable to prevent a constant stream of wickets to leave their mood as gloomy as the conditions in south Wales.

Post-Match Reaction
Alastair Cook admitted his side fell short of what was needed following the one-sided defeat, saying:“We didn’t play very well at all today. Credit to that partnership from MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina, they took the game away from us and we didn’t react to that. Even when we batted it wasn’t a 160 wicket.
"Chris Woakes bowled pretty well and it's nice to see Alex Hales up and running. We have to dust ourselves down and play better."
India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was glad to get back to winning ways after a difficult Investec Test series.
“It’s a very different format, it gives them (India's batsmen) the freedom to express themselves on the field," he said. "It brings them back into form if they’re out of form a bit.
“The start is always crucial. I'm comfortable with not losing too many wickets because you can then look to double the score later, which is what we did.
“And if you lose too many wickets you put the big-hitting players under pressure."
Man of the match Suresh Raina revealed he had planned to bat as deep as possible, adding:“The wicket was really good so I thought if I batted until around the 45th over then we could easily put a target on the board.
“I’ve seen the last four Test matches and I think everyone was looking forward to this game. Hopefully we’ll do well in the coming games.”
England Innings
6.05pm - END OF INNINGS! - Tredwell c Jadeja b Ashwin 10; Eng 161 - England have been bowled out in 38.1 over to suffer a 133-run defeat. James Tredwell skies a catch that Jadeja sits under and holds. India go 1-0 up in the series, while a couple of defiant strokes leave James Anderson unbeaten on nine.
5.55pm - WICKET! Woakes st Dhoni b Jadeja 20; Eng 143/9 - The end is close. Jadeja spins the ball past Woakes as he presses forward and, with his weight going down the wicket, he is drawn well out of his crease. Dhoni flicks off the bails with Woakes resigned to his fate.
5.48pm - CHANCE! - Chris Woakes pulls Shami to Rohit at midwicket. The ball bursts through his hands and Rohit has immediately left the field.
5.43pm - WICKET! Jordan lbw Raina 0; Eng 128/8 - Jordan plays back to a delivery that keeps a little low and you will not see a more plumb lbw. Raina grabs a wicket to go with his century.
5.38pm - WICKET! Stokes c Rahane b Jadeja 23; Eng 126/7 - Stokes thumps Jadeja high and towards midwicket. He aims at one of the largest boundaries though and Rahane does brilliantly to keep himself inside the rope and hold the catch as the ball flew over his shoulder.
5.30pm - WICKET! Morgan c Shami b Ashwin 28; Eng 119/6 - It is Morgan's turn to top-edge a sweep now. He gets more on the ball than Hales did earlier, but that only allows Shami the time to run around from deep square-leg and hold a good catch. Morgan does not make India pay for that drop.
5.26pm - CHANCE! - Morgan blasts a very difficult return catch back to Suresh Raina, who sticks out his right hand only for the ball to burst through. A life for Morgan on 28.
5.24pm - England are trying to build at the moment. Morgan is showing off his skills with a couple of reverse sweeps to the rope. It may be in a forlorn hope, but Morgan is not about to hand this to India.
5.07pm - WICKET! Buttler c Kohli b Jadeja 2; Eng 85/5 - Jadeja has a second. Buttler gets a leading edge and the ball spoons to Virat Kohli at short cover.
5.01pm - WICKET! Hales c Ashwin b Jadeja 40; Eng 81/4 - Hales top-edges a sweep at Ravindra Jadeja and the ball loops to Ravichandran Ashwin at short fine-leg. Jadeja strikes in his first over and England are in deep trouble. That was a promising debut innings from Hales.
5pm - We've now played 20 overs of this innings so we will have a result. England are 79 for three which is exactly 50 runs behind the Duckworth-Lewis par score.

4.49pm - Mohit bowls a maiden first over after the drinks break. It appears England are, sensibly, concerning themselves only with chasing the 295 from 47 overs. They are so far behind Duckworth-Lewis at the moment that trying to quickly catch up that mark, with the rain only a potential nuisance at present, would probably be fatal to their hopes in any case.
4.41pm - CHANCE! - Hales drops the ball and calls new man Eoin Morgan through for a single that was not on. An Ajinkya Rahane direct hit from cover would have seen Morgan on his way despite a dive. England are 67 for three after 16 overs as we take a drink.
4.31pm - WICKET! Root b Bhuvneshwar 4; Eng 63/3 - England are in trouble. Bhuvneshwar gets a ball to nip back in to Root and get through his defences as he tried to jam down. The conditions are gloomy and India's bowlers are enjoying them.
Every wicket sends England further behind the Duckworth-Lewis Method. If we are to get a game, and reach 20 overs, the par score at three wickets down is 129.
4.19pm - WICKET! Bell b Shami 1; Eng 56/2 - Oh dear, Ian Bell has left a straight one. He thought Shami would get the ball to shape away. He didn't and the ball crashes into Bell's off stump.
4.16pm - WICKET! Cook lbw Shami 19; Eng 54/1 - The skipper shuffles across his stumps to Mohammed Shami and is pinned in front trying to work to leg. No question the ball was crashing into the stumps, but it did appear to pitch just outside leg stump.
4.13pm - I'm pretty confident Cook is not reading this blog while he's batting, but as soon as I mentioned that stat about Hales hitting all the boundaries the skipper promptly hits the next two balls for four. The first was a streaky inside edge. The second was a glorious Cook cover drive. One of those shots he served up with regularity in Australia a few years ago.
4.10pm - England are 45 without loss after the reduced nine-over powerplay. Hales has hit all five boundaries England have managed so far.
4.05pm - Hales slaps Mohit through square leg for a boundary and follows it up with a perfect cover drive. That's the last piece of action for that bat, though, as he swaps it. England are 38 for none after eight overs. That's nine runs ahead of D/L at the moment.

3.48pm - Hales gets a full stride in and drives Bhuvneshwar through the covers for four. When he tries again later in the over the ball is not quite there and he gets a thick edge that flies through a vacant bacward point for a single.
3.37pm - Hales pushes his first delivery for a quick single off the back foot. Mohit then beats Cook twice with deliveries that just leave the England skipper.
3.32pm - Alastair Cook takes six from the opening over from Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Hales to face his first ball in ODIs now. Mohit Sharma to deliver it...
3.23pm - I've been told we will aim to start again at 3.30pm. The rope test never fails. The revised Duckworth-Lewis target is now 295 from 47 overs. The initial powerplay is reduced to nine overs. The batting powerplay remains at five overs.
3.20pm - It looks like we will have an over reduction even though there is some prospect of rain soon. There's no official word on when we might start, but the groundstaff are running a rope around the outfield. That's the sure-fire indicator to suggest we're not far away.

3pm - The rain has arrived and we're going to have a delay. India's fielders were out and ready to go, but just as England's opening pair were walking out the rain came down. Alex Hales must think he's jinxed with the weather in Bristol and now here. I'm sure he will, eventually, get a bat this afternoon.
India Innings
2.25pm - END OF INNINGS! India 304/6 (Jadeja 9 Ashwin 10) - Jordan's last over costs 13 - with the help of some lucky edges - as India get beyond 300. Raina and Dhoni will get the plaudits although Rohit's patient half-century when conditions were tough paved the way.
Woakes was the outstanding bowler for England with his four wickets while Tredwell locked things down in the middle until Raina and Dhoni cut loose. Jordan's 12 wides, though, could be costly.
2.16pm - WICKET! Dhoni b Woakes 52; 288/6 - Woakes decieves Dhoni with a slower ball out of the back of his hand. That's the Warwickshire man's fourth wicket. It was a clever bit of work and prevents Dhoni from inflicting any more damage. He was trying to hit that one into the Taff.
Woakes finishes with figures of 10-1-52-4. Jordan, who as bowled 12 wides so far, will deliver the final over...
2.14pm - FIFTY! Dhoni (49balls 6x4 0x6) - Dhoni has played second fiddle in this late surge but he gets to his half-century at just over a run-a-ball by lofting Anderson for a couple. That was a good over by Anderson nonetheless as it cost just four. With two overs to go India are 285 for five.
2.05pm - WICKET! Raina c Anderson b Woakes 100; Ind 276/5 - A stunning innigs is ended, albeit with another super shot. Raina steps away and cruches Woakes over point. He hit it so well that it reached Anderson on the boundary who held on comfortably. That was a much-needed wicket. Raina's partnership with Dhoni realised 144 in 111 balls. Ouch.
1.57pm - CENTURY! Raina (74balls 12x4 3x6) - A deserved century for Raina as he squeezes a Jordan full toss away for the single he needed. The large Indian contingent in the crowd love it. That's his first century since 2010. Raina's second 50 has come from 25 balls as India have accelerated away after being restricted early.
1.54pm - The Indian crowd think Raina has brought up his century, but the umpire correctly signals leg byes. He remains on 99. With five overs to go India are 265 for four.

1.45pm - It is starting to get a bit messy for England. Raina pummels Stokes for a pair of boundaries before a bad Waokes mis-field allows him to take two when he should have got none. Raina is four away from a century.
1.40pm - CENTURY PARTNERSHIP! - Raina thumps Tredwell back over his head for six to bring up the century stand with Dhoni from 78 balls.
1.32pm - Raina finishes a heavy-scoring batting powerplay with a hat-trick of fours off Anderson. India took 62 runs without losing a wicket in those five overs. Raina led the way - he struck 41 from 15 balls. The foot is down.
1.27pm - Jordan's wayward radar continues to be an issue. Five wides in his previous over - including three in-a-row down the leg side - and he's bowled 11 today. The Indian fans are enjoying it at least.

— Sky Sports Cricket (@SkyCricket) August 27, 2014
1.16pm - FIFTY! Raina (49balls 6x4 1x6) - After smacking that six Raina sits back and waits for a short ball that he paddles away to reach his half-century.
He then brings up the half-century partnership with Dhoni with a pulled six that flies over Jordan at wide fine-leg. With another flicked four to finish the over cost 20. Woakes' first five-over spell only cost eight!
1.14pm - The lights are on. It has started to get a bit gloomy here which may be an indication that forecast rain is on the way. Raina is not having a tough time seeing the ball as he plants the returning Woakes back over his head for six.
1.06pm - India have taken the batting powerplay at the latest possible opportunity. They are 156 for four after 35 overs.
12.58pm - Anderson is brought back on to try and remove Dhoni before he can inflict his usual late-innings damage. While he does beat Dhoni's bat Raina is able to get him away fine for a boundary.
12.52pm - It is drinks with India 140 for four after 32 overs. Mahendra Singh Dhoin has joined Suresh Raina out in the middle. The India skipper probably would have preferred to come in a bit later to do the finishing job although the 2011 World Cup final tells us he is more than capable of guiding India to a good score from here.
12.48pm - Jordan's radar has not quite been on today. A couple of wides in his sixth over and he's now had to re-bowl six deliveries.
12.39pm - WICKET! Rohit c Woakes b Tredwell 52; Ind 132/4 - England get reward for some restrictive bowling as Rohit tries to launch Tredwell over the mid-on rope but falls well short. Woakes steps forward to take an easy catch and after all his hard work Rohit wil feel he has thrown that away.
That is a wicket maiden for Tredwell whose figures read 6-1-21-2.
12.28pm - FIFTY! Rohit (82balls 4x4 1x6) - Rohit brings up a battling half-centiry with his 13th consecutive single - a flick away to leg off Stokes. It has not been the quickest innings, but it is just what India have needed after some excellent new-ball bowling from Anderson and Woakes. It has been an innings borrowed from the good-old days of ODI cricket, which just goes to show this format is not all about crash, bang, wallop.
It was a tight call - but the third umpire rules Rahane had nothing behind the line when wicket was broken #EngvIndpic.twitter.com/Ynk8ZSnPQv
— Sky Sports Cricket (@SkyCricket) August 27, 2014
12.15pm - WICKET! Rahane st Buttler b Tredwell 41; Ind 110/3 - The TV umpire sends Rahane on his way after a long deliberation. The India right-hander slides his foot out of his crease ever so marginally and Buttler whips off the bails. The keeper was always confident. England needed that wicket after a 91-run stand from 102 balls.
12.02pm - James Tredwell comes on and the India batsmen milk him for seven from his first over. After managing 26 for two in the powerplay, India have scored 69 without loss in the next 10 overs.
11.55am - Rahane crunches Jordan back down the ground for a four that rolls along the green SWALEC Stadium carpet. These two are looking dangerous. Cook has turned to the spin of Joe Root at the River Taff End.

— Glamorgan Cricket (@GlamCricket) August 27, 2014
11.41am - That's the 50-run partnership between Rohit and Rahane and they have done it from 49 balls. That's good work after they were cast into early trouble.
11.39am - Stokes bowls a no-ball and pays for it fully as Rohit swats him over the deep square-leg rope for six from the resultant free hit. India are 64 for two from 15 overs and look to be targeting the first-change bowlers.
11.34am - Huge appeal for caught behind as Rohit jumps down the wicket and tries to blast Jordan over the top. Buttler goes straight up and Jordan is convinced - he runs away towards point celebrating - but umpire Paul Reiffel is unmoved.
The DRS replays - which are not available to be used by the third umpire - reveal nothing. Good decision.
11.29am - Ben Stokes is brought into the attack from the River Taff End. Ajinkya Rahane pounces on an over-pitched delivery by stroking him through mid-on for his first boundary.
11.22am - Rohit carves Anderson through cover for the shot of the day so far. It is the second boundary of the over as he takes 10 from it. India needed that kick-start.
At the other end Chris Jordan is replacing Woakes, whose opening spell read 5-1-8-2.
11.15am - At the end of the powerplay India are 26 for two. They found the boundary just three times in the first 10 overs as Woakes and Anderson have kept them under wraps.
11.03am - WICKET! Kohli c Cook b Woakes 0; Ind 19/1 - Virat Kohli's horror tour continues. He skips down the wicket and smacks Woakes back down the ground from just his third ball only to pick out Alastair Cook at mid-on. He throws his head back in disgust. He can't believe he's picked out the England skipper.
11.01am - WICKET! Dhawan c Buttler b Woakes 11; Ind 19/1 - Dhawan swishes at one ball too many and feathers and edge for Jos Buttler to hold easily. The India opener was just starting to grow in confidence, but he has again been undone by the moving ball.
11am - Rohit and Dhawan have endured a few hairy moments when running between the wickets, but they have just about managed to avoid a run out. Dhawan is just starting to find his timing now and flicks Anderson over mid-wicket for four.

10.46am - Shikhar Dhawan has flashed and swished until he finally cuts Woakes away for his first runs, from his 12th delivery, to the point rope.
10.42am - The first runs off the bat took 18 legitimite deliveries but it was worth the wait as Rohit pushes Anderson down the ground for a boundary.
10.38am - Chris Woakes follows up with another maiden. He found plenty of bounce in his first over too. India eventually get off the mark with an Anderson wide down the leg side to start of the third over.
10.34am - James Anderson begins with a maiden that saw him find enough movement to beat Rohit Sharma's bat a couple of times.

10.03am - England win the toss and Cook does indeed elect to bowl.
10am - Welcome to today's blog from the second Royal London one-day international. The good news is the weather here in Cardiff is not wet!
After the series-opening rain-off in Bristol that is welcomed news for everyone and, while there is some chance of rain later in the day, we should get a good chunk of play and, hopefully, a full game.
Alex Hales is therefore set for his ODI debut after the weather in Bristol had delayed his bow. We're about to have the toss so we'll find out whether he is cast straight into action at the top of the order alongside Alastair Cook. With that weather forecast later, though, you would imagine it is a win the toss and bowl day. We will see soon...
