Eoin Morgan has been ruled out of this evening’s second NatWest International T20 between England and New Zealand at the Kia Oval with a broken finger.
James Tredwell will captain England today in Morgan’s absence, which is expected to be short term.
Morgan was standing in for regular Twenty20 international skipper Stuart Broad, who is being rested along with the majority of England’s Champions Trophy squad.
England need victory this evening to share the T20 rubber after the Black Caps’ five-run win in Tuesday’s high-scoring opener at the same venue.
Tredwell said: "It is a great honour that I will lead out the team this evening. Firstly to have had the opportunity to play for England, now to captain the team is something you dream of. Hopefully as a group we can go one better than Tuesday."
Morgan is set to undergo an operation tomorrow after sustaining the injury during the Champions Trophy semi-final against South Africa on June 19.
