England Under-19s put the finishing touches on a whitewash of their five-match youth one-day international series against South Africa at the 3aaa County Ground.

Will Rhodes’ side completed their dominance by skittling the Proteas - who won the Under-19s World Cup earlier this year - for 125 to secure an 87-run win.

England had looked in some danger when they were held to 212 for eight batting first, but South Africa were plunged into immediate trouble, slipping to 35 for four when Rob Jones’ smart work ran out Marques Ackerman.

Hampshire off-spinner Brad Taylor then got to work with his 3-28 from 10 overs the pick of some miserly bowling figures.

Opener Grant Roelofsen’s 40 was easily South Africa's top score, before he fell to the Taylor-Jones combination, and England might have won by a grearter margin but some tail-end defiance.

After falling to 88 for eight in the 33rd over the Proteas, who were without any of the players that won the World Cup final against Pakistan in March, delayed the inevitable until the 49th over when Ed Barnard bowled Stefan Klopper.

England had earlier stuttered with bat in hand as their innings faltered on two separate three-wicket collapses.

After recovering from 28 for three, thanks to a 74-run stand between Haseeb Hameed and Joe Clarke, the hosts wobbled in mid-innings again losing three for 27.

It needed some clever hitting from Luke Wood down the order to get England beyond 200 as he matched Clarke’s 45 to be joint top-scorer in the innings.
