England’s innings defeat of India in the fourth Investec Test at Emirates Old Trafford has seen a lot of movement in the Reliance ICC Test Player Rankings.
Stuart Broad and Jimmy Anderson made surges in the top 10 of the bowlers rankings following their heroics, while Joe Root, Jos Buttler and Moeen Ali achieved career-best tallies.
Broad made the biggest progress amongst the bowlers, jumping four spots into ninth place following his first innings performance of 6-25, and his new-ball partner Anderson moved back into the top five thanks to match-figures of 5-64.
Moeen also jumped four places following his second innings haul of 4-39, taking him to a new high of 33rd.
Whilst not as high, England’s batsmen also enjoyed several improvements in fortune. Root’s impressive form throughout the summer has earned him a career-high of 14th place in the world, a position he shares with Mahela Jayawardene.
Ian Bell was the other batsman inside the top 20 to move up, he also earned two places to move into 17th position.
However England’s biggest mover is wicketkeeper Jos Buttler. The veteran of just two Tests has jumped up eight places into 55th position after a second consecutive half-century.
