9.55pm - Well, there we have it - a breathless end to a fantastic day’s cricket. Here’s a summary of today’s results. Are you ready to do it all again tomorrow? We’ll catch you then.
Essex Eagles (249/4) romped to a comprehensive six wicket victory over Lancashire Lightning (247/7), with 71 deliveries to spare at theEssex County Ground. Tom Westley and Jesse Ryder benefitted from let-offs to score 84 and 71 not out respectively.
Captain Michael Klinger led Gloucestershire (133/3) to a seven-wicket Duckworth Lewis win over Leicestershire Foxes at Bristol, scoring an assured 55 not out in a match-winning stand with Will Gidman. Earlier, David Payne destroyed the Foxes’ top order with 4-23.
Yorkshire Vikings (213/4)openers Alex Lees and Adam Lyth smashed 102 and 84 respectively to setup at six wicket win over Northants Steelbacks in a rain-reduced contest atWantage Road.
Surrey (314/9) tied withKent Spitfires (314/8) amid incredible drama atKia Oval. Zafar Ansari plundered a pair of sixes in the final over but Gareth Batty was run out off the last ball having required a single from the final two. Sam Billings and Vikram Solanki were among the batsmen to make hay in an enthralling contest.
An unbroken eighth-wicket stand from Yasir Arafat and Will Beer saw Sussex Sharks (288/7) beat Durham (287/8) by three wickets at the BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground, 2pm. Scott Borthwick starred with bat and ball for the visitors, who appeared certain to get over the line before Arafat and Beer intervened.
Somerset (298/5) beat Warwickshire (181) by 117 runs atEdgbaston thanks to a fine century by Peter Trego and three-wickets apiece from pacemen Tim Groenewald and Alfonso Thomas - the former having also blasted quickfire fifty.
9.35pm - RESULT! Sussex Sharks (288/7) beat Durham (287/8) by three wickets at the BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground. It ends in a hail of no-balls and wides from John Hastings but this was all about Yasir Arafat and Will Beer, whose unbroken 97-run partnership for the eighth wicket snatched victory from the jaws of likely defeat after Graham Onions and Scott Borthwick took three wickets apiece. Earlier, three Durham batsmen passed fifty but a fine team display unravelled in the final hour.
9.28pm - That leaves just one game still going and, remarkably, Arafat and Beer have Sussex on the brink of victory. The latter moves to 44 with back-to-back fours off Chris Rushworth, while Arafat’s 53 almost certainly looks like a winning hand.
9.23pm - RESULT! Kent (314/8) tie with Surrey (314/9) at the Kia Oval. Absolutely unbelievable drama at the Oval. Ansari took a single after his second six, leaving Batty with the seemingly simple task of one run from two balls. But Claydon held his nerve, finding a dot ball before the former England spinner was run out trying to scamper a single at the death. Amazing scenes!
9.19pm - AND ANOTHER! Ansari launches another maximum and suddenly Surrey need just two from three deliveries!
9.17pm - A superb set of six from Bollinger costs just four singles and a leg bye, meaning Surrey need 16 from the final over. Gareth Batty is alongside Ansari … who hits the first ball from Claydon for six!
Wicket! Azhar Mahmood b Tredwell 38 Surrey 294/8 (48 overs) #SURvKEN
— Kent Cricket (@kentcricket) August 5, 2014
9.10pm - A couple of eighth-wicket partnerships certainly have Durham and Kent more than a little twitchy.
Yasir Arafat and Will Beer, on 44 and 24 respectively, have added 58 and Sussex need 39 from the last six overs. Meanwhile, Azhar Mahmood and Zafar Ansari have Surrey needing 21 from 13 after putting on 44.
9.07pm - RESULT! Yorkshire Vikings (213/4) beat Northants Steelbacks (209/7) by six wickets at Wantage Road. A late clatter of wickets - Lyth one of two batsmen to fall to James Middlebrook for 84 - mattered not as Yorkshire stormed to their second win of the tournament, condemning Northants to a second defeat, in a rain-reduced contest illuminated by Alex Lees’ spectacular hundred.
8.52pm - RESULT! Somerset (298/5) beat Warwickshire (181) by 117 runs at Edgbaston. Thomas rounds things off to ensure he and Groenewald finish with three wickets apiece. Warwickshire were in the contest, despite a spiralling rate, at 129 for three, but subsided badly thereafter. None of the home batsman came close to matching Peter Trego’s superbly judged century.
WICKET! Lees' brilliant innings comes to an end as he is spectacularly caught by White off Spriegel for 102. Yorkshire are 195/1 in the 29th
— Northants Cricket (@NorthantsCCC) August 5, 2014
8.43pm - Century for Alex Lees. The youngster races beyond Lyth to his maiden List A ton off 85 balls, featuring 14 fours and a six. This is a quite sensational display from the Yorkshire opening pair.
Thomas bowls Ateeq Javid with the slower ball and Somerset are one wicket away.
8.41pm - Mitchell Claydon strikes twice in an over to get rid of the dangerous Gary Wilson and clatter through Chris Tremlett’s timbers. Surrey need 76 from the last 10 overs but, with just four wickets in hand, Kent must be favourites.
Warwickshire’s race is almost run as Lewis Gregory cleans up Jeetan Patel and Recordo Gordon, sending them tumbling to 167 for eight.
8.28pm - Borthwick is at it again with his googly - Ben Brown is the latest man bowled, unable to pick it. As he departs for 26, it is tempting to wonder whether Sussex’s hopes leave the field with their wicketkeeper.
Wicket - Evans ct Hildreth bowled Thomas for 50. Warwickshire 154-6 after 34.5 #YouBears
— Warwickshire CCC (@CricketingBears) August 5, 2014
8.20pm - A well-made half century for Evans, but there’s drama at the Kia Oval as Burns is run out.
8.18pm - Surrey pass 200 and need to go at seven-and-a-half an over to see off Kent. Burns has 42 and might be the pivotal figure.
Yorkshire are seemingly in a rush to get back up north, having rattled their way to 144 without loss. Lees is 79 not out and Adam Lyth has 55.
Just a reminder to @Borthwick16 - you don't have to appeal when the ball hits the stumps ;)
— Durham Cricket Club (@DurhamCricket) August 5, 2014
8.13pm - Oh, that’s brilliant from Borthwick! A perfectly pitched googly bowls Steffan Piolet for one and Sussex are suddenly in all sorts of bother.
8.07pm - Onions returns to the attack and hurries Matt Machan with a short ball. The left-hander can only shovel a catch to Paul Collingwood at fine leg and he goes for 33, leaving his team 168 for five.
8.04pm - Kent really needed that one - Solanki goes caught Bollinger, bowled Adam Riley for 83. Surrey are 180 for three.
8.02pm - Lyth brings up 50 and Yorkshire continue along their merry way to 90 without loss.
Two wickets in three balls for Groenewald, who now has 3-37, as Rikki Clarke goes for a duck and Somerset take a firm grip on the contest.
Wicket - Ambrose ct Barrow bowled Groenewald for 33. Warwickshire 129-4 after 28.2 #YouBears
— Warwickshire CCC (@CricketingBears) August 5, 2014
7.58pm - Laurie Evans and Tim Ambrose are both unbeaten on 33 amid a 55-run partnership for Warwickshire’s fourth wicket. It’s a fine rebuilding job but the required rate is climbing towards eight an over.
Vikram Solanki has motored on to 77 in tandem with Rory Burns and Surrey need 139 from 20.4 overs with eight wickets in hand.
7.46pm - Scott Borthwick’s first over cost just one and the Durham leg-spinner gets his reward in his next set of six. Craig Cachopa attempts to break the shackles but shanks a nicely flighted delivery to Hastings in the off side, departing for a run-a-ball 39. Sussex are 139 for four, needing 149 more at a run rate of 5.62.
And Vikram moves to fifty from 60 balls with 7x4 pic.twitter.com/WgmSQ58D68
— Surrey Cricket (@surreycricket) August 5, 2014
7.33pm - Yorkshire have rattled along to 46 without loss in the eighth over, with Adam Lyth doing most of the damage. The in-form opener has 34 from 27 deliveries, containing six fours.
7.22pm - Warwickshire look to have their work cut out on 77 or three, after Jack Leach dismisses Freddie Coleman for 25.
Meanwhile, Surrey and Sussex are through to three figures.
7.09pm - John Hastings, himself in the midst of a fine, bustling spell, has Joyce caught behind and Sussex are 84 for three for 26.
There’s an important breakthrough for Kent at the Kia Oval as Fabian Cowdrey comes into the attack to remove Davies for 58.
The players make their way back out to the middle. @Yorkshireccc require 210 to win. pic.twitter.com/mNRDCc1kkI
— Northants Cricket (@NorthantsCCC) August 5, 2014
6.56pm - Wright is out! Huge breakthrough for Durham. Onions deserves that, as some wonderful deliveries from the seamer have gone unrewarded. Perhaps inevitably, it’s a ropey half-tracker that does for Sussex’s star man. Wright’s eyes understandably light up but he hits it flat and into the waiting hands of Calum MacLeod on the midwicket fence.
Big wicket as Trott is caught at slip by Trescothick off the bowling of Groenewald for 29. Warwickshire are 46 for 2 in the 10th over.
— Somerset Cricket (@SomersetCCC) August 5, 2014
6.51pm - Sussex reach 63 for one at the end of the powerplay, while Surrey are rollocking along at 74 for one in the 10th. Steven Davies is within touching distance of a fabulous half-century.
6.47pm - Northants finish on 209 for seven. Yorkshire will have 38 overs to get those, providing the rain stays away. Adam Rossington played a fine hand to top score with 75 for the hosts.
6.41pm - Back-to-back fours from Wright off Onions to bring up 50 for Sussex, suggesting they might just have weathered the storm. A short ball is similarly dispatched to the fence and that's 13 from the over.
Northants have passed 200 with six balls to go.
TWO IN TWO - Spriegel is caught at long on off Pyrah for 12. #GoSteelbacks
— Northants Cricket (@NorthantsCCC) August 5, 2014
6.32pm - Two wickets in as many overs for Yorkshire all-rounder Rich Pyrah. Graeme White is caught by Jack Leaning at deep extra-cover after Ben Ducket found the same fielder at deep midwicket 45. Northants are 194 for six, with 2.2 of the 38 overs remaining.
6.28pm - Durham are all over Sussex at the moment. Onions thought he’d removed the in-form Luke Wright, caught at gully, before the third umpire correctly ruled a bump ball, while Joyce was shelled at slip by Gareth Breese in the next over.
WICKET: Pyrah strikes with Duckett pulling to Leaning at deep mid-wicket for 45. Northants 179-5 in 34th overs
— Yorkshire CCC (@Yorkshireccc) August 5, 2014
6.19pm - We’ve had early wickets in all of the run chases now, as Somerset seamer Alfonso Thomas sends Will Porterfield back to the pavilion.
Moments ago, Ed Joyce breathed a heavy sigh of relief as Onions rapped one into his pads. The Irishman survived but it was might, mighty close.
6.14pm - That’s an absolute jaffa from Graham Onions! The Durham seamer gets one to pitch and straighten, pegging back Chris Nash’s off stump as the Sussex skipper helplessly gropes forward.
6.12pm - Rossington goes for 75, caught in the deep by Jack Brooks after mis-timing a sweep off Adil Rashid.
Early breakthrough for Kent as Doug Bollinger has Tillakaratne Dilshan caught behind without scoring.
DROP: Duckett (35) has been dropped by Pyrah, one-handed at backward point. Northants 160-3 in 29th over
— Yorkshire CCC (@Yorkshireccc) August 5, 2014
6.01pm - RESULT! Gloucestershire (133/3) beat Leicestershire Foxes (136/8) by seven wickets on the Duckworth-Lewis method at Bristol. A captain’s inning of 55 not out from Michael Klinger saw his side home with 13 balls remaining in a rain-reduced clash. Will Gidman eased himself to an unbeaten 39 in an unbroken, match-winning stand of 74 from 11 overs. Left-arm seamer David Payne was the star for Gloucestershire with the ball, ripping out Leicestershire’s top order on his way to 4-23.
5.56pm - The players return at Wantage Road, with no overs lost after that short interruption.
5.50pm - Gloucestershire are easing to victory over the Foxes. They need 17 from the final four overs, with Klinger and GIdman well established on 44 and 32 respectively.
It's raining here at the County Ground and the players are back in the dressing rooms. Steelbacks are 137/3. pic.twitter.com/PUeeBTSV7q

5.43pm - All today’s Group B matches are now at their halfway stage. Here’s how things stand on what proved to be a fine afternoon for batsmen.
Kent Spitfires post an imposing 314 for eight having elected to bat against Surrey at theKia Oval. Azhar Mahmood bowled Mitchell Claydon with the final ball of the innings and Chris Tremlett returned 4-38, but it was largely an afternoon of toil for the hosts as Sam Northeast, Fabian Cowdrey and Sam Billingham all hit half-centuries - the latter’s 87 coming off just 42, with six fours and as many sixes.
Durham, who won the toss, finish on 287 for eight against Sussex Sharks at the BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground. Mark Stoneman, Scott Borthwick and Paul Collingwood were half-centurions before Yasir Arafat pegged the north-east county back with three wickets in his final two overs.
Somerset register 298 for five having been asked to post a total by Warwickshire at Edgbaston. Peter Trego played a fine hand with a wonderfully paced century, while Tim Groenewald provided fireworks on his way to 57.
WICKET - Groenewald ct Ambrose bowled Gordon for 57. Somerset 274-5 after 47.3 overs #YouBears
— Warwickshire CCC (@CricketingBears) August 5, 2014
5.25pm - Jeetan Patel brings an end to Trego’s fun, while Arafat misses out on a hat-trick. Nonetheless, it’s a superb final over.
5.22pm - Century for Peter Trego. It’s another wonderful performance from one of Somerset’s most reliable performers in limited-overs cricket. Tim Groenewald is also through to 53 and the duo have added 87 at a rate of nine per-over. Four more overs of potential punishment remain for Warwickshire.
Meanwhile, Yasir Arafat is on a hat-trick in the final over at the BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground. Chris Rushworth stands in his way…
50 - @Rossington17 reaches his half century off 55 balls including 7 fours. His second of the competition, Steelbacks are 99/3 after 19
— Northants Cricket (@NorthantsCCC) August 5, 2014
5.19pm - Two wickets in an over from Dan Redfern fire Leicestershire’s hopes at Bristol. Chris Dent and Will Tavare are the Gloucestershire batsmen to depart, but new man Will Gidman is immediately into his stride with back-to-back fours.
5.15pm - RESULT! Essex Eagles (249/4) beat Lancashire Lightning (247/7) by six wickets at the Essex County Ground. In truth, it was an absolute cakewalk for the hosts at Chelmsford. Jesse Ryder made the most of being dropped by Karl Brown, bludgeoning 71 not out from 52 deliveries. In tandem with Tom Westley’s excellent 84 and an unbeaten cameo of 26 from skipper Ryan ten Doeschate, it meant Lancashire’s third defeat in three came with 71 balls to spare.
5.12pm - Tremlett strikes again to remove Calum Haggett, finishing his 10 overs with superb figures of 4-38. Kent are 291 for seven in the 48th over.
Yasir Arafat produces a trademark yorker to end Collingwood’s excellent innings of 67. Durham have 17 balls to improve upon 270 for six.
Yorkshire seamer Steven Patterson gets dangerman Richard Levi caught behind and Northants are 93 for three after 18 overs.
