9:31pm - RESULT! Sussex Sharks (223/9) beat Notts Outlaws (173) by 50 runs at Trent BridgeLiddle bowls Jake Ball and Wright has Harry Gurney caught by Hamilton-Brown at cover to ensure Notts do not make it eight Group A wins from eight.

That wraps up another day of county action; join us again tomorrow.

9:18pm - Another one bites the dust at Trent Bridge, Ajmal Shahzad skying an attempted slog-sweep off Beer and Hamilton-Brown taking a fine, diving catch.

9:11pm - It seems the Outlaws' 100% record will come to an end, with Taylor trapped lbw by Chris Nash reverse-sweeping for 48.

9:06pm - Another Notts batsman strikes a maximum but falls cheaply; after crunching Beer over midwicket, Chris Read hits Luke Wright straight to cover.

8:51pm - Well, well, well. Notts looked in control but are now 127 for five as Riki Wessels edges Liddle behind. Taylor remains yet, despite being in good form, has yet to find his timing.

8:46pm - Hussey, who never looked comfortable despite striking Liddle for six, picks out Rory Hamilton-Brown at long-on off Will Beer to depart for just 14.

8:26pm - Sussex, having been hampered by Ed Joyce dropping Taylor at cover, grab a much-needed wicket when Patel skies a catch off Chris Liddle to depart for 45. Notts are 100 for three; David Hussey, back for another stint with the club, enters the fray for his first knock of the summer.

8:04pm - Samit Patel and James Taylor are leading the home recovery in the sole game still playing, although the latter is struggling somewhat and has just got away with an apparent glove behind.

7:26pm - An "encouraging start" has turned into a bad one for Notts, who have lost Lumb and Alex Hales in quick succession. The former was castled by Hobden and the latter struck Andrew Miller to point.

7:17pm - Notts make an encourgaging start in pursuit of 224 as Michael Lumb collects a four off Chris Nash and two off List A debutant Matthew Hobden.

Here are the close-of-play scores from the LV= County Championship games:

Division One

Somerset are 16 for none replying to Derbyshire’s 266 having opted to field on the first day at the County Ground.
Yorkshire are 292 for five after Surrey chose to field on the first day at Headingley.

Division Two

Lancashire beat Sussex by eight wickets on day two at Emirates Old Trafford.
Glamorgan are 164 for five replying to Worcestershire’s 505 for seven declared on day two at New Road.
Leicestershire are 268 for seven after winning the toss against Essex at Grace Road.

6:52pm - Sussex Sharks have managed just 223 for nine at Trent Bridge; the hosts will fancy making it eight wins from eight, I would suspect.

Leicestershire lost Thakor, for 54, and Jigar Naik soon before stumps, at which point they were 268 for seven, while Glamorgan closed on 164 for five with the in-form Jim Allenby 56 not out.

6:31pm - Sussex have collapsed at Trent Bridge; they are now 210 for eight after 37 overs with Gurney claiming five wickets and Machan going for 68.

Play is done for the day at Headingley - where Yorkshire ended 292 for five - and Derby, with Somerset are 16 for none.

RESULT! Northamptonshire (62 & 169) lose to Lancashire (159 & 73/2) by eight wickets at Emirates Old Trafford - Lancashire chase down a small target comfortably, Luis Reece hitting 22 not out and Ashwell Price 38.

6:08pm - Surrey continue their fightback against Yorkshire as Lewis has Adil Rashid, who's having a fine season with the bat, caught at second slip.

Sussex lost Joe Gatting cheaply and are now 180 for five after 33 overs, while Michael Thornely and Shiv Thakor have put on an unbroken stand of 49 for Leicestershire.

5:56pm - Derbyshire have now been dismissed for 266 against Somerset, while Sussex's progress against Notts Outlaws has been hampered by Samit Patel having Ed Joyce stumped for an impressive 58.

Ballance has fallen 10 short of a century for the White Rose, trapped lbw by Jon Lewis.

5:37pm - Richard Johnson has reached his half-century for Derbyshire, although Tony Palladino - with whom he shared an 82-run stand - fell one shy of the landmark.

Play has recommenced at Grace Road and, in the sole YB40 clash, Sussex are on to 137 for three after 25 overs, Matt Machan having struck two sixes in his 33 not out.

Glamorgan are in further strife versus Worcestershire, five down and not yet past 100 with Chris Russell bowling Marcus North for 36.

5:13pm - Rain has intervened at Grace Road, with Leicestershire 199 for five following Matthew Boyce's departure.

Andrew Gale has reached yet another century - what a run of form he is enjoying now having endured a long four-day hundred drought - while Lancashire have lost an early wicket in their chase, David Willey having Procter caught behind. Elsewhere in Division Two, Glamorgan are 71 four four after Alan Richardson lured a feather behind from Murray Goodwin.

Sussex are three down, Steven Mullaney having Nash caught and bowled.

4:58pm - It is the end of their resistance! Procter picks up another later in the over - castling Graeme White for a duck - before Simon Kerrigan traps Murhpy lbw for 50 in the next. The visitors are dismissed for 169, meaning Lancashire require 73 for victory.

4:53pm - Is that the end of Northants' resistance? Luke Procter has the breakthrough for Lancashire, half-centurion Hall becoming his third victim. The visitors are 169 for eight, a second-innings lead of 72.

Sussex are two down, Rory Hamilton-Brown falling cheaply to Gurney, but they are still scoring at better than a run-a-ball. Chris Nash is 36 not out.

4:50pm - Worcestershire are turning the screw at New Road. Shantry has his second wicket, rearranging Ben Wright's stumps to remove the opener for 27 and leave Glamorgan 58 for three.

4:32pm - Finally! Batsmen are prospering in Manchester, Hall reaching his fifty alongside Murphy, who is unbeaten on 42, as Northants continue to fight.

Yorkshire's Ballance, included in England's squad for next week's two Twenty20 internationals versus New Zealand, has moved beyond 50.

Sussex Sharks' good start has been undermined by Luke Wright edging a wild attempted cut off Harry Gurney behind for 24.

4:24pm - Play has resumed after tea at Derby with the hosts 179 for seven, while Glamorgan were 44 for two at the interval and Leicestershire 188 for four.

Yorkshire, meanwhile, have secured their first batting bonus point and Northamptonshire battle on at Emirates Old Trafford.

Sussex have made a solid start versus Yorkshire Bank 40 experts Notts, reaching 25 without loss after 3.2 overs.

3:55pm - It had been hard going for Derbyshire duo Richard Johnson and Jonathan Clare, who added 32 runs in 16 overs for the seventh wicket in an attempt to recover some momentum. But Thomas has now claimed Clare as his third wicket of the day to keep Somerset in the ascendancy.

Hall and Murphy will go into the tea interval at Emirates Old Trafford pleased with their rearguard action in the last hour while Shiv Thakor and Matthew Boyce are attempting to guide Leicestershire out of danger following Napier’s double strike.

3:47pm - Tea is taken at Headingley with Gale and Ballance receiving warm applause from the home crowd. They’ve added 99 for the fourth wicket to recover from a slight collapse after lunch.

Ahead of their YB40 game at Trent Bridge, Sussex Sharks have won the toss and will bat first.

3:43pm- Jack Shantry had an impressive morning with the bat and he’s followed it up this afternoon with a wicket. Stewart Walters made just six and Glamorgan are firmly on the back foot now, replying to Worcestershire’s mammoth 505 for seven declared.

Lancashire still remain firm favourites for victory at Emirates Old Trafford, but a fifty partnership between Andrew Hall and David Murphy has at least rescued some respectability for Northamptonshire. Despite their efforts, however, the away side are effectively 35 for seven in their second innings.

3:30pm - Napier has a second! This time it’s Joe Burns who has his innings brought to an end, for 26. A couple of important breakthroughs for the visitors at Grace Road, have brought Essex well in the game now.

Kevin Pietersen is on to bowl for Surrey, but he’s unable to prevent Gale, pictured, from reaching a half-century.

3:19pm - Worcestershire have made early inroads into Glamorgan’s top order as Bragg is caught behind by Ben Cox off Alan Richardson for five.

A Graham Napier yorker has brought about O’Brien’s downfall, with the Irish wicketkeeper dismissed lbw for 67.

Gale and Gary Ballance have taken their fourth-wicket stand beyond fifty to slow Surrey’s momentum while Northants have ensured Lancashire will be made to bat for a second time.

2:55pm - A couple of overs after Moeen departed, Worcestershire declared on 505 for seven with Ben Cox adding an unbeaten 40. Ben Wright and William Bragg have since got Glamorgan’s first dig started with no early alarms.

Steve Kirby has dealt a double blow to Derbyshire, who are now six down for 141. Madsen goes lbw before Ben Slater gives Trescothick his third catch.

Northants have lost their seventh wicket, that of David Willey, to leave Lancashire on the brink of victory. The hosts look likely to be made to bat again, however, with Northants trailing by just eight runs.

2:36pm - Moeen is able to reach 250, but he falls the next ball, caught by Michael Reed at long-off enabling Dean Cosker to celebrate his fourth wicket. There were 26 fours and two sixes in Moeen’s innings, which lasted over eight hours. A phenomenal achievement. Having seen the back of Moeen, Glamorgan will now be hoping to wrap up the tail and get on with their reply.

Things go from bad to worse for Northants, who have lost Steven Crook to Procter, still trailing by 30.

There are also a couple of half-centuries to report from Derbyshire captain Wayne Madsen and Leicestershire opener Niall O’Brien.

2:20pm - The break for bad light at Headingley has definitely worked to Surrey’s benefit as the away side pick up their third wicket. Tim Linley claims Sayers as his first scalp of the game and Yorkshire are wobbling.

Northamptonshire have really got their backs to the wall now as Rob Keogh and Alex Wakely are both sent back to the changing rooms. Keogh is bowled by Tom Smith for four before Luke Procter accounts for Wakely.

David Masters has removed Ned Eckersley to keep Essex in business, while the imperious Moeen Ali is just one run away from 250 as he and Ben Cox bring up a century partnership.

1:53pm - Wayne Madsen struck two fours from Craig Meschede’s first over after lunch, but Derbyshire’s initial momentum has quickly dissipated with Wes Durston gone for six. Alfonso Thomas and Alex Barrow team up to account for the former Somerset man, ensuring the visitors are now well on top at the County Ground.

The Yorkshire Bank 40 Group A fixture between the Netherlands and Warwickshire Bears has been abandoned without a ball being bowled.

1:44pm - In the next over, Zander de Bruyn wraps Adam Lyth on the pads to bring to an end the 20-year-old’s patient knock. After a 62-run first-wicket partnership, Joe Sayers and Andrew Gale will now need to rebuild the Yorkshire innings following a double blow.

It’s also going to be an important afternoon for Northants, who have captain Alex Wakely and Rob Keogh at the middle, hoping to steer the visitors away from trouble.

1:37pm - The weather has picked up at Headingley, which is good news for Surrey who claim their first wicket, that of Adam Lyth. Chris Tremlett, pictured, induces an edge which Vikram Solanki holds at second slip. Lyth made 41.

In the game between Australia A and Gloucestershire, the tourists are 141 for one at lunch. Nic Maddinson has lead the way and is unbeaten on 75 after Steven Smith won the toss at Bristol.

1:12pm - It’s certainly been a great session for Lancashire, who continue to hold sway against reeling Northants.

Moeen’s double ton has been the lynchpin of Worcestershire’s efforts, while a testing first morning at our three other championship games leaves honours about even, although Derbyshire will need a couple of useful partnerships this afternoon.

Inclement weather has left a prompt start between the Netherlands and Warwickshire Bears in their Yorkshire Bank 40 clash in jeopardy. We still have the clash between Notts Outlaws and Sussex Sharks at Trent Bridge to look forward to later.

1:07pm - Ned Eckersley sees off Graham Napier to guide Leicestershire to lunch with no further losses.

Here’s a round-up of the scores from all five championship games after the morning session:

Division One

Derbyshire
are 84 for three after Somerset opted to field on the first day at the County Ground.
Yorkshire are 50 for none after Surrey chose to field on the first day at Headingley.

Division Two

Northamptonshire
are 26 for three, trailing Lancashire by 71 runs on day two at Emirates Old Trafford.
Worcestershire are 438 for six on day two at New Road.
Leicestershire are 98 for one after winning the toss against Essex at Grace Road.

1pm - An even first session at Derby turns in Somerset's favour as Craig Meschede ousts Chanderpaul, caught behind by Alex Barrow for five.

Simon Kerrigan has provided the first over of spin in the game at Emirates Old Trafford which results in a maiden. That ends 59.1 overs consecutive overs from Chapple, pictured, and Hogg over Lancashire's last two championship games.

12:56pm - Moeen has reached a double century, and in some style. He lofts Cosker into the New Road stands for his first six of the innings, adding to his 21 fours. After more than seven hours at the crease, it’s been a sensational knock from the Worcestershire number three.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul has joined Wayne Madsen in the middle for the final few overs of an even morning session at the County Ground.

12:46pm - Chapple and Hogg are at it again! First, Sales is bowled by the Lancashire captain before Hogg traps Middlebrook lbw. Northants are 22 for three, still trailing by 75 runs, and in big trouble. Middlebrook's dismissal means Lancashire have claimed their last 26 championship wickets for just 109 runs. Quite unbelievable.

Tom Fell’s championship debut hasn’t gone to plan. He’s been bowled by Cosker for a golden duck to leave Worcestershire 397 for six.

Ryan ten Doeschate has earned Essex their first wicket, Smith lbw for 27, while at Headingley, bad light has forced an early lunch break.

12:33pm - Hughes is on his way back to the pavilion now as Trescothick holds on to his second catch. Alfonso Thomas is the bowler celebrating, bagging a wicket in his third over.

Kervezee lasts just six deliveries as his brief stay at the crease is brought to an end by Michael Reed.

12:28pm - Unfortunately, Shantry falls short, caught and bowled by Dean Cosker for 32. Alexei Kervezee is a useful man to have coming in at number six with Worcestershire now looking to drive home their dominance.

Leicestershire and Yorkshire have both started their innings with unbeaten 50-run partnerships, while Hughes and Madsen have also shaken hands on a half-century stand for Derbyshire.

@Yorkshireccc on Twitter: Umpires meet for bad light and after a few cries of 'get on wi' it', they stay on. 45-0

12:14pm - Could this be a portent of what we should expect later today? Hogg induces an error from Coetzer who is made to depart after Chapple clings on to the catch. The Scottish right-hander made just five to leave David Sales with a daunting task.

Shantry is edging towards joining Moeen, pictured, in reaching his highest score. He’s 31 not out, needing another 17 runs to bring up that milestone. Glamorgan skipper Mark Wallace's decision to bowl first looks increasingly erroneous with Worcestershire now 384 for three.

12:04pm - Greg Smith and Niall O’Brien have successfully navigated their way through the early overs against Essex. Their steady, if not spectacular progress, has taken the hosts’ score to 27 without loss.

After their early setback, Derbyshire are back on track thanks to Chesney Hughes and Wayne Madsen.

11:57am - Glen Chapple and Kyle Hogg have a new ball in their hands at Emirates Old Trafford, which could spell trouble for Northants opening pair Kyle Coetzer and James Middlebrook.

The Yorkshire openers have seen off some probing bowling from Tremlett and Lewis, with Tim Linley and Zander de Bruyn now the men tasked with finding Surrey’s first wicket of the day.

11:46am - Tom Smith and Simon Kerrigan were able to add 30 for the last wicket before the latter was bowled to give Azhar his second wicket of the morning. The 29-year-old finishes with impressive figures of 4-42, but thanks to Smith, who top scored with an unbeaten 35, Lancashire are bowled out for 159 to lead by 97.

Nightwatchman Shantry is also doing a very useful job for his team, now 23 not out. He and Moeen have taken their fourth-wicket stand to 45 runs.

11:32am - Elsewhere, it’s a slow start to proceedings as the batting sides attempt to erect some firm foundations. After winning the toss, Somerset have made their first breakthrough, however, Billy Godleman edging Jamie Overton to Marcus Trescothick at slip.

Tight opening spells from Chris Tremlett and Jon Lewis have restricted Yorkshire to just nine runs from the first eight overs. Crucially, Adam Lyth and Alex Lees remain unmoved.

11:17am - Unsurprisingly, the first wicket of the day has fallen at Emirates Old Trafford! Stephen Parry is the man to depart, bowled by Muhammad Azhar Ullah for 12.

An early boundary for Moeen has seen him reach his highest score, 159 not out.

11am - Leicestershire have won the toss and have chosen to bat with play set to get started at Grace Road in 15 minutes.

At all four of our other games, we’re under way!

10:57am - Derbyshire seamer Mark Turner is playing against his former club while Tony Palladino is making his return from a side strain which has kept him out of action since the opening week of the season. None of the hosts’ starting XI have played for Derbyshire against Somerset before, so it will be interesting to see how they get on.

As Surrey prepare to take the field, it is worth remembering this is Alec Stewart’s first game in charge of the side since the sacking of Chris Adams on Monday.

@leicsccc on Twitter: Toss and start delayed here by 15 minutes. 10.45 toss and 11.15 start

10:42am - Pietersen will be made to wait to get some batting practice out in the middle as Surrey win the toss and elect to bowl in Leeds. Ricky Ponting will not feature for the visitors as he is ruled out with a hand injury, while Phil Jaques missed out for Yorkshire.

Somerset have also decided to bowl first, meaning Derbyshire will be the ones looking to see off the new ball this morning.

10:38am - Also in Division Two, Essex will be looking to bounce back from their humiliating performance against Lancashire with a positive start against Leicestershire at Grace Road.

In Division One, bottom two sides Derbyshire and Somerset are both looking for their first win but it is the action from Headingley which will draw most focus.

Table-topping Yorkshire have Jack Brooks back in their ranks, while Kevin Pietersen, pictured, is included in Surrey’s side. A full round-up of all the team news can be read here.

10:35am - Lancashire will be hoping their tail can wag this morning to increase their first-innings’ lead. It was a crazy day in Manchester yesterday, with 18 wickets falling for just 183 runs so expect the unexpected there today.

Centuries from Matt Pardoe and Moeen Ali gave Worcestershire the perfect start to their game and the latter is still unbeaten on 155. Moeen needs just four more runs for his highest score and will be joined by nightwatchman Jack Shantry at the start of the morning session.

10:34am - We’re heading into the second day of two of our clashes. Here’s a summary of the scores at the end of day one.

Lancashire are 121 for eight in reply to Northamptonshire’s first innings total of 62 all out at Emirates Old Trafford.
Worcestershire are 322 for three after being asked to bat by Glamorgan at New Road.

10:30am - Morning folks! Welcome to ecb.co.uk's live coverage of today's county action. With play from five LV= County Championship games starting in half an hour and two Yorkshire Bank 40 matches to come later this afternoon, we have a busy day in prospect.
