The weekend of the summer solstice brought the promise of sunshine and batsmen cashed in around the country as the Royal London Club Championship moved into the last-32 stage.
There were plenty of runs at Cambridge Granta as the 2011 runners up squeezed past Home Counties Premier League side Banbury by five wickets with just one ball to spare.
Banbury were put into bat and Nathan Hawkes took a liking to the East Anglian Premier League side bowlers as he hit 140 from just 107 balls as the Oxfordshire side put on 246 for nine from their 45 overs.
However, it was an opening partnership of 201 between Jonathan Atkinson, who hit 89 from 111 balls, and Douglas Rice, who added 110 from 121 balls, that set excellent foundations as the Cambridgeshire side booked their place in the fifth round.
Two other centuries were hit in losing causes, firstly at St Just in Cornwall as visitors Bristol lost by six wickets despite ex-Gloucestershire and Somerset wicketkeeper Steve Snell hitting his second century of the season in this competition.
Snell’s 117 was the mainstay of the Bristol innings but only two other batsmen reached double figures as they were bowled out for 216.
In reply Neil Curnow and Mark George put on 115 for the first wicket as the Cornish side won with 25 balls to spare.
Meanwhile, in the Midlands, the Birmingham and District Premier League derby match saw Nick Seager smash 102 off 76 balls, but it was not quite enough as his Kenilworth Wardens side fell just short in their chase of 294 against Walmley, finishing on 279 for eight.
Ealing were runners up last season and are looking to make a repeat trip to the final as they enjoyed a comfortable win against fellow Middlesex League side Brondesbury by 155 runs.
The main reason for this victory was down to the second-wicket partnership between Oliver Wilkin, who hit 103 from 100 balls, and Chris Wakefield, contributing 101 from 110 balls, of 213 as Ealing amassed 283 for six.
Chris Peploe and Kristian Martin then both took three wickets each as Brondesbury were dismissed for 128.
The biggest individual score of the day came in Sussex as Sussex Premier League leaders Roffey beat Southern Premier League leaders Havant by two wickets thanks to an impressive 149 not out by Rohit Jagota.
Jagota followed up scores of 73 not out and 56 in the previous two rounds as he helped his side reach the last 16 against fellow Sussex side Hastings & St Leonards Priory.
Hastings themselves came through a close match as they overcame East Grinstead by just two runs, Cameron Smith clearing up the East Grinstead tail to secure the win in the final over.
York, who won this competition in 2012, booked their place in the fifth round as they cruised to an easy victory against North East Premier League side Hetton Lyons by 123 runs.
The Yorkshire Premier League leaders scored 193 for nine from their 45 overs but then dismissed their opposition for just 70 - only captain Gary Scott reached double figures - with Jake Murphy taking 4-24 and Tom Pringle’s 3-3 doing the damage.
Ryan McFadyean took 5-19 from nine overs to produce the most impressive bowling performance of the round as he dismissed all top-five Caythorpe batsmen as his SandiacreTown side dismissed their visitors for just 92 in a seven-wicket win.
The fifth round (last 16) will be played on Sunday 13th July, for more information about all the fourth-round results and fifth-round fixtures, go to the Royal London Club Championship Play-Cricket pages at ecb.play-cricket.com.
