4.49pm - The stand between Ashwell Prince and Steven Croft is now worth 250. That is a record for any partnership for Lancashire against Northants.

Notts could be ahead tonight the way they are going. Jaques has raced to his half-century, from 57 balls, and the home side are 94 without loss in the 20th over. That's a deficit of 74 runs.

4.34pm - Will Bragg follows his opening partner Rudolph to 50 as Glamorgan roll on in pursuit of Gloucestershire's first-innings 391. The visitors are 116 for none.

Leicestershire's Charlie Shreck provokes an edge from Gareth Batty - who is playing his 200th first-class game - and Niall O'Brien takes the catch. Surrey are 243 for seven.

4.25pm - Warwickshire have been bowled out for 228 by Yorkshire at Edgbaston. Ryan Sidebottom knocks over last man Boyd Rankin to grab his first wicket of the innings. Jeetan Patel is left unbeaten on 63 after supplying some late hitting to get the Bears beyond 200.

4.23pm - That is a half-century for Jacques Rudolph. The South African reaches the landmark from 81 balls, but more importantly Glamorgan are 90 without loss.

4.15pm - Nottinghamshire are looking to cash in fully after skittling Somerset for 168. Openers Phil Jaques and Steven Mullaney have helped them race to 56 without loss after 10 overs.

3.59pm - And Lancashire have their two centurions! Prince reaches the landmark from 141 deliveries. He timed it well, with tea now being taken. The Red Rose are in a great position on 256 for three.

Durham head to tea as well at 222 for seven against Sussex at Emirates Durham ICG.

3.52pm - Brooks has a third scalp for Yorkshire, castling Chris Wright to leave Warwickshire 180 for nine.

It's now tea at the Kia Oval where Surrey are 233 for five and Roy is within 26 of a hundred. The players also head off at Bristol, where William Bragg and Jacques Rudolph have handed Glamorgan a fine start to their first innings. The visitors are 78 without loss, responding to 391.

3.42pm - And Croft moves on to three figures at Emirates Old Trafford. It comes from 152 deliveries, and Prince should soon follow to the landmark. What a session for Lancashire!

It's tea at Canterbury, where Kent are 184 for four. Bell-Drummond is still there on 72.

3.35pm - A maiden first-class wicket for Karl Carver! The slow left-armer accounts for Keith Barker, with Finch taking a fourth catch on the innings at slip. Warwickshire are 171 for eight.

3.30pm - The end of two vital knocks. Stoneman falls for 113, with Lewis taking a second scalp to leave Durham 202 for seven. Meanwhile in the capital, Solanki is bowled by Taylor for 54 with Surrey 204 for five.

3.17pm - Will Somerset regret their choice to bat this morning? They have been toppled for 168, with Shahzad rounding the innings off by taking his second wicket to remove Jamie Overton.

3.11pm - Stoneman watches another partner depart in the north-east. Gordon Muchall added 19 to the Durham total before Jon Lewis strikes for the first time in the game. Durham are 193 for six. Phil Mustard joins Stoneman - on 107 - in the middle.

Jason Roy brings up a half-century at the Kia Oval, and partner Vikram Solanki follows suit in the next over. The pair have dragged Surrey past the 200-mark, with four wickets down.

3.03pm - Oh what a shame for Trescothick! His knock today deserved a ton, but the Somerset opener - when 13 runs away from the landmark - falls victim to a one-handed catch from Samit Patel in the slips off Peter Siddle. The visitors to Trent Bridge are now 155 for nine.

2.56pm - Well batted Mark Stoneman! It's a century for the Durham opener, coming in 129 balls. A fine effort, considering he has seen five wickets fall at the other end so far today.

Lancashire's fourth-wicket partnership between Prince and Croft is now worth 150.

2.52pm - Daniel Bell-Drummond records a fifty for Kent, who have reached 138 for three against Derbyshire.

2.44pm - Tim Ambrose had repelled Yorkshire for almost an hour-and-a-half, but he falls for 29 - the joint highest score at Edgbaston today - as Rich Pyrah takes a third scalp.

Lancashire's afternoon continues to go well, with Ashwell Prince reaching a half-century. Northamptonshire could desperately do with a wicket.

2.30pm - After 20 minutes wait without a wicket in the LV= County Championship, Nottinghamshire make a breakthrough. Trescothick continues to witness the carnage at the other end, as Craig Meschede falls to Ajmal Shahzad. Somerset are 135 for seven.

Paul Collingwood can only make seven for Durham, who are now 148 for five.

2.15pm - We've had 11 wickets in the first half-hour of the afternoon session, but one batsman who looks in particular good nick is Steven Croft. He brings up a fifty with two boundaries in four balls off Muhammad Azhar Ullah in the battle of Division One's bottom two at Emirates Old Trafford.

2.10pm - Clarke does not hang around long at Edgbaston. Steven Patterson accounts for the Warwickshire batsman after he had faced just three deliveries. Warwickshire are 90 for six and Yorkshire are rampant.

2.02pm - Dean Cosker wraps up the Gloucestershire innings at Bristol. The home side post 391.

Warwickshire lose two wickets in as many balls! Jack Brooks has Sam Hain and then Chris Woakes caught at first slip by Aaron Finch. Rikki Clarke survives the hat-trick ball, though.

Ben Stokes is out for 36 at the Emirates Durham ICG, Surrey lose a second of the session and fourth wicket in total with Steven Davies ousted, while Marcus Trescothick reaches a half-century for Somerset. He has half of his side's runs so far today.

1.55pm - What were the batsmen doing at lunch? There's another early dismissal, this time at the Kia Oval where Hashim Amla is skittled by Rob Taylor for 71.

1.52pm - Another wicket at Trent Bridge! Peter Trego can score just one before falling to Harry Gurney, who has three scalps to his name. Somerset are 95 for six!

1.41pm - Michael Hogan returns from the lunch break in style, removing Benny Howell with the session's second ball. Hogan has four of Glamorgan's nine wickets.

Andre Adams goes one better with a first-ball success, trapping Craig Kieswetter lbw for 17. Somerset's regrouping at lunch has not work as planned.

1.14pm - Here is a wrap of the lunch scores. All six captains elected to bat first in the games that began today, yet most of the bowling teams enjoyed profitable first sessions.

Division One

Mark Stoneman and Ben Stokes pulled Durham from early trouble in an unbroken 83-run stand to be 113 for three at lunch against Sussex at Emirates Durham ICG.

Somerset skipper Marcus Trescothick opted to bat at Trent Bridge and then watched on as his side slipped to 90 for four away to fellow Division One high-fliers Nottinghamshire.

David Willey bowled for the first time in the championship this season as Northamptonshire made a much-needed good start against Lancashire, restricting their hosts to 84 for three at Emirates Old Trafford.

A couple of late Rich Pyrah wickets allowed Yorkshire to take their lunch content with a morning’s work against Warwickshire that yielded71 for three at Edgbaston.

Division Two

Gloucestershire are 385 for eight with an unbeaten 45 from Benny Howell enabling them to push towards 400 against Glamorgan at Bristol.

Hashim Amla is unbeaten on 56 as Surrey made a solid start with the bat to be 106 for two against Leicestershire at the Kia Oval.

Derbyshire spinner David Wainwright claimed the two wickets to fall as Kent reached 89 for two at the Spitfire Ground.

12.59pm - Mark Stoneman brings up his half-century just before lunch. It has been a much-neeed innings after the early problems Durham were cast in to.

12.41pm - Two in two overs for Pyrah. He beats Jim Troughton's defence to locate the stumps. Every Division One side has now lost at least three wickets in the first session. Is it a bat-first day? Or maybe there is just a bit in these fresh wickets.

Derbyshire spinner Wainwright also has his second wicket of the morning. Ben Harmison edges behind for 17 - enough to take him past 3,000 first-class runs - and Kent are 74 for two.

12.30pm - Grieshaben manages 10 in his debut championship innings. The 17-year-old's stay comes to an end when he nicks off to Dean Cosker. Gloucestershire are 361 for eight. They have lost three for 53 this morning.

Warwickshire are two down at Edgbaston with Chopra caught behind by Jonny Bairstow off Rich Pyrah for 29.

12.15pm - Derbyshire snare their first wicket and it's spinner David Wainwright who does the trick in his first over. Rob Key is stumped for 34.

In the other Division Two clash to begin today, Surrey are 62 for two. Zafar Ansari has just been bowled by Ben Raine for nine.

12.06pm - Petersen can not cash in on his life. The South African skies a catch that Riki Wessels does well to run back and pouch and give Gurney his second wicket of the morning.

Andre Adams then castles James Hildreth and Somerset are 46 for four. Marcus Trescothick, who like every other captain this morning, elected to bat first and has watched the carnage unfold from the other end.

12.01pm - Crook has another as Paul Horton edges behind and Lancashire are 33 for three.

Alviro Petersen gets a life at Trent Bridge as he nicks through the slips for a boundary. At Edgbaston, Varun Chopra also survives after Adam Lyth grasses a tough chance at second slip off Jack Brooks.

There is a bit about for the bowlers this morning!

11.50am - Will Gidman's exit at Bristol has brought 17-year-old wicketkeeper Patrick Grieshaben to the crease. The teenager was only drafted in yesterday from club cricket after Gloucestershire's wicketkeeper curse struck again. Cameron Herring suffered a suspected broken finger in the warm-up and the SOS was sent out for Grieshaben, who only two years ago was leading Bath CC Under-15s to the national title at Kibworth.

11.47am - Steven Crook has come on to replace Willey and he strikes in his second over as Alex Davies is trapped in front for 14.

Durham have lost a third wicket with Michael Richardson pinned in front by Hatchett. Ben Stokes walks out with his side in trouble at 30 for three.

11.37am - Despite the unanimous decision to bat first from the county skippers this morning the bowlers are getting reward with the new ball on a fresh pitch.

Durham are 23 for two as Steve Magoffin has Scott Bortwick caught driving on the up.

Yorkshire have also broken through with first-change Steven Patterson having Will Porterfield caught in the slips by Aaron Finch.

The men behind the stumps have also been worked at the Kia Oval, with Leicestershire wicketkeeper Niall O'Brien holding on after Rory Burns nicked Nathan Buck behind.

11.31am - Glamorgan grab another bowling point as Tom Smith is run out by, who else, but Michael Hogan. Gloucestershire are 322 for six.

11.23am - Somerset are in early strife at Trent Bridge as Nick Compton quickly follows Chris Jones back to the pavilion. Harry Gurney prises him out, caught behind by Chris Read, for a second-ball duck.

11.15am - Sussex have the first wicket of the day as Durham opener Keaton Jennings edges Lewis Hatchett behind.

David Willey is back in Northamptonshire's four-day team and he is opening the bowling, which is good news for the all-rounder after his injury.

10.45am - Veteran spinner Gareth Batty will make his 200th first-class appearance in Surrey's clash with Leicestershire at the Kia Oval.

10.40am - Confirmation it is a bat-first day. All six skippers who have won the toss this morning have decided to bat.

So, in the first division Durham, Lancashire, Warwickshire and Somerset will all bat first. In Division Two, Surrey and Kent will both attempt to rack up big scores.

10.33am - News of how the coin flips have fallen from around the country is now starting to filter through.

With glorious sunshine about it seems like a bat first day. Certainly that's the perception for Warwickshire and Kent who have both opted to post a total first against Yorkshire and Derbyshire respectively.

10am - Hello and welcome to ecb.co.uk's live coverage of the LV= County Championship. We have six games starting today, to go alongside the clash between Gloucestershire and Glamorgan. Here's a brief reminder of what happened on day one in Bristol.
