Surrey ended a prolonged bout of travel sickness when they wrapped up a 10-wicket victory 23 minutes into the final day of the LV= County Championship Division Two match against Derbyshire at the 3aaa County Ground.
It was Surrey's first away win in the championship since they beat Essex at Chelmsford in the penultimate game of the 2011 season and was their second four-day victory this summer.
Barring an extraordinary sequence of events, a 23-point haul was in the bag for the visitors before a ball was bowled on the fourth morning, which was overcast enough for the County Ground floodlights to be switched on.
Surrey needed only 21 and, with no threat of rain, it was just a question of how quickly they scored the runs and whether Derbyshire could at least take a couple of wickets.
Mark Footitt opened from the Racecourse End and beat Rory Burns with his first ball, squared him up with his second and a diving take down the leg side by Gareth Cross off the last delivery prevented four leg byes.

After Zafar Ansari squeezed Tony Palladino behind square for the first run, Burns clipped him through midwicket for a three and Ansari steered Footitt to the third-man boundary in the next over.
Ansari straight-drove Palladino for three more before an edge between third slip and gully off Footitt brought him a streaky four and Burns completed victory when he turned the 35th ball of the day past square-leg.
Surrey captain Gary Wilson said: "We got a bit lucky with the toss because it was a good one to lose and I think they made the right decision in batting first.
“It was a dry wicket and if they had got a few more runs in the first innings it would have been a really good game of cricket.
"We are putting it together as a championship side and the challenge is to keep it going but we are starting to look a good side. We've probably had five or six guys in this game who have really put their hand up and that's very pleasing."
Derbyshire captain Wayne Madsen said: "It was obviously lost on the first day with the bat, we needed more runs after winning the toss and unfortunately that's what has cost us this game.
"After playing well, especially towards the back end of the last game at Leicester, to come here and be pretty much well beaten is disappointing but I thought we showed a bit of fight in the second innings.
"If we had scored 250 or 300 batting first we would at least have been in the game but 150 was just not enough."
