Stuart Broad looks ahead to the Investec Test series with Sri Lanka

Fit-again Stuart Broad is excited to be part of the England squad as they begin a new era with the Investec Test series versus Sri Lanka, starting at Lord’s this week.

The 28-year-old bowler is returning to the set-up for the first time since the World Twenty20 in March, having recovered from a troublesome knee injury, and enters a much-changed Test dressing room from the last time he was in it.

Peter Moores has returned to the role of Head Coach, while Sam Robson, Chris Jordan and Moeen Ali have all been named in a Test squad for the first time.

Broad has had two LV= County Championship outings under his belt this summer, including a productive run-out against Sussex last week where he took five wickets, to prove his fitness and earned a place in the 12-man party to take on the Sri Lankans at the home of cricket.

And despite already winning 67 Test caps, the Nottinghamshire man still gets a buzz every time he receives the call.

“I always get excited when a Test team is announced, my mum always sends me a congratulatory text,” Broad told ecb.co.uk. “It is one of those things that you can never take for granted.

Stuart Broad was in the wickets for Nottinghamshire at Hove last week, including the dismissal of England team-mate Matt Prior

“It’s brilliant to be involved but also it’s quite rare that you have so many new guys in the side as well, so that brings a lot of excitement.

“And also getting to work with Mooresey again; I really enjoyed working with him in his previous stint, he brings a lot of energy and passion to the sport and I thrive off that.

“I have had a couple of good work-outs, especially at Hove, so I was delighted to be named in the Test squad; I got butterflies.

“I am excited about getting together with the group; there are a few guys I don’t know particularly well, so it feels like a bit of a new era.

“It’s actually a very good team, which stands us in good stead for the summer.”
